The most interesting thing in tech: Digit, a humanoid robot from Agility that runs on its own—not with an operator behind the scenes. It seems like it has four grandparents: a human, a dog, a velociraptor, and a roomba with GPT-4. I did a demo with it this morning at #websummit2024. Here's how it works, why some of the design choices were made, and how companies might fit it into their factories.

Of course, in addition to announcing Schaeffler as our newest customer. Digit and Peggy Johnson took to the main stage at Web Summit to sort more laundry. We are still focused on bulk material handling for manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and warehousing. Sorting laundry is just a nice, relatable task for these big events. It's also a great way to show off the work we are doing with natural language commands and VLMs for robot control.

A maker of humanoid robots argues that the machines aren’t replacing workers, but are freeing workers to do higher-skilled jobs.

This week Peggy Johnson and Digit took center stage at The Wall Street Journal Tech Live conference. Peggy gave voice commands to Digit like "Put the Tech Things shirt into the basket". Digit then used a VLM to scan the table and find the right item, autonomously putting it in the laundry basket. Thanks to our host Joanna Stern for an authentic and enjoyable Tech Things segment.
