On top of everyday wear and tear, support surface top covers are at risk for degradation due to repeated and frequent exposure to harsh disinfectants, many of which are meant for hard surfaces. When used incorrectly, these cleaners can create micro-holes long before visible damage appears and more quickly degrade the surface. For patients and hospitals, that can lead to serious problems. Our VP of Product Management and Clinical Affairs, Kristen Thurman, recently published a study in Advances in Skin & Wound Care, where she explored the challenges of cleaning and disinfecting support surfaces in hospital settings – and the impact of damaged surfaces on patient safety, surface longevity and the hidden costs of improper care and maintenance of support surfaces.
