A new Era of the Olympic movement begins Thursday (March 20, 2025). It was nearly 129 years ago and approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Pylos, Greece (host of the 144th IOC Session from 18 to 21 March) that the first modern Olympics was held in Athens. ?Now on the eve of the upcoming IOC presidency vote we are at a pivotal moment in the future of the Games. ?? https://lnkd.in/en_QU6ng As the 10th IOC president is elected, there are many key areas where this leadership change will impact how the Olympics are conducted over the next decade and beyond, with two of those Games taking place in the United States (LA2028 and SaltLake34). ?? The new president will set the tone for the direction of the Olympics, influencing crucial decisions on the inclusion of new sports, event formats, and how the Games adapt to the evolving interests of younger audiences. ?? A focus on athlete welfare and representation could lead to enhanced support systems, ensuring that the voices of those who compete are prioritized in decision-making processes. ?? With climate change as a pressing global issue, the next president's commitment to sustainability could redefine how future Olympic Games are planned, focusing on eco-friendly practices and responsible resource management. ?? The next leader will need to navigate geopolitical challenges and work towards fostering international cooperation, unity, and peace through sports, reinforcing the Olympics as a platform for dialogue. ?? Embracing new technologies can enhance both athlete performance and viewer experiences, and the upcoming leadership can drive initiatives to integrate innovative solutions into the Olympic framework. It is a seven candidate race, with three likely names (Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., Sebastian Coe, and Kirsty Coventry) being discussed as the leaders heading into the election, but as history has proven, anything can happen and regardless of who is at the helm of the IOC, change is on the horizon, and the next president will play a crucial role in steering the Olympic movement towards what is hopefully a dynamic and inclusive future. #IOCPresidency #Olympics2025 #FutureOfSports #GlobalUnity

Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD)! We know, the official NGWSD was February 5, but Aggregate Sports is celebrating 20 days later intentionally to call attention to the statistic that girls are considered to be 20% less likely than boys to participate in sports; meaning that for every 100 boys playing sports, only 80 girls are participating. ? There are many potential reasons for this gender gap in sports participation, including factors like societal expectations, body image concerns, and lack of female role models in sports all contributing to girls being less likely to play sports, but likely the biggest factor, lack of access. Girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play high school sports than boys have. Lack of physical education in schools and limited opportunities to play sports in both high school and college mean girls must look elsewhere for sports –which may not exist or may cost more money. Often there is a lack of access to adequate playing facilities near their homes that makes it more difficult for girls to engage in sports. Why is this such a concern? Research shows that sports can improve girls' self-esteem, resilience, leadership skills, and mental health and studies suggest that girls who actively participate in sports during adolescence may have a reduced risk of developing significant health issues, like breast cancer, later in life. What can we all do to help close this gap: ?? Encourage participation: Make physical education (PE) relevant to girls' lives and develop their self-confidence ?? Provide resources: Ensure equal funding and media coverage for girls' sports ?? Create a supportive environment: Develop community support and educational programs ?? Develop future role models: Encourage female role models and empower girls to design and deliver PE and sports ?? Give women in sports a voice: Focus on female athletes' accomplishments and narratives ?? Develop gender equity policies: Implement policies that promote gender equality in sports organizations ?? Embrace representation: Hire more female sports executives ?? Show up: Attend women's sports games at all levels Want to learn more about how you can make an impact?
