Protecting ecosystems from the impacts of coastal works

AGESCIC answers coastal works environmental challenges with a disruptive set of easy-to-use and cost effective solutions. With more than 400 projects per year in the EU, coastal constructions are an important source of water pollution with turbidity and underwater noise. Those two major impacts can cause severe damage on the biodiversity, especially benthic fauna, fish, mammals, cephalopod, microalgae and seagrass. This project aims at bringing new technology solutions to reduce the marine environmental impacts of coastal works, especially for the underwater noises and turbidity impacts, on marine fauna and ecosystems. AGESCIC is related to the new European ocean protection strategy through the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) 2008/56 / CE (descriptors 6 and 7 for turbidity and 11 for underwater noise) to reach Good Environmental Status for oceans. The AGESCIC project is the combination of 3 innovative technologies. Together they build a disruptive systemic full service solution : ? One noises mitigation and turbidity containment system : SubSea Quieter ? One real-time acoustic/turbidity impacts assessment and ecosystem monitoring system : SmartPAM+ ? Whales play a vital ecological role: they bring nutrients from the depths, feeding phytoplankton, which is responsible for 50% of the oxygen we breathe and absorbs 40% of the CO2. Each whale stores an average of 33 tons of CO2, helping fight climate change. But that’s not all: marine mammals act as “umbrella species,” protecting a wide range of ecosystems and marine life. Their preservation is key to maintaining ocean balance. ?????????????? ?????????????? : ? Despite legal protections, whales and other marine mammals still face numerous dangers: ? Pollution: ingestion of plastics and entanglement, chemical disruptions affecting their health. ? Underwater noise: marine work and traffic disturb their communication and food-seeking behavior. ? Collisions: vessels pose a major threat to these ocean giants.
