[Day 2 Highlights – Ageing Asia Industry Tour to the UK] Today’s focus was on research and measuring outcomes exploring into ExtraCare’s collaboration with Aston and Lancaster Universities. This ongoing research examines how ExtraCare’s integrated approach, combining housing, healthcare, and social care enhances the quality of life for older adults while reducing societal costs. One remarkable highlight was meeting a 102-year-old resident who continues to live independently within the community. Her story is a testament to the effectiveness of ExtraCare’s model, showcasing how the right support system can empower older adults to maintain autonomy, stay socially engaged, and enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle well into their later years. Our visit included a tour of the village, interactive knowledge, sharing sessions, and insightful presentations. Last week in Singapore ????, I co-facilitated a workshop with Sarah Nolan (on behalf of the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing) and the wonderful Ageing Asia on '???????????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????????????? ???? ????????'. The room was filled with businesses, housing providers, and policymakers — people with different perspectives, yet the same core challenge: ?????? ???? ???? ?????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ???????????? ???????? ?????????? ????????? A few things stood out: ?? ???? ?????????? ???????? ???????? ???? ??????????. The challenges across sectors and geographies aren’t as different as they seem. Whether you’re a business, a housing provider, a government department, or a service user, the core concerns—dignity, autonomy, quality of life—are universal. ?? ?????????????????????????????? ???? ??????-????????????????????. Technologies like home monitoring and remote care can transform ageing, but no single solution works for everyone. We've all noticed that after years of the necessary technology being widely available, a global leader in home and remote monitoring STILL hasn't emerged. We need choice. What feels empowering for one person might feel invasive to another. The key isn’t just design-for-all—it’s ensuring people can select what fits their lives. ?? ???????????????????? ?????????? ?? ???????? ????????. We can’t just design for today—we need to think across generations. What works for one person now may face resistance from others. Balancing immediate needs with future expectations is one of the biggest design challenges in ageing. And finally—WE NEED TO MAKE MORE NOISE. We need to EMPOWER communities, MOBILISE innovators, and INSPIRE changemakers to keep pushing this agenda forward. A huge thank you to the simply amazing Ageing Asia team for making this happen.
