?????????????????????? ?????????? ???? ?????????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???????????? ???? ?????????????? ?? ???? ???????????? ???????????? By a vote of 15% (support) to 85% (opposed), Measure J was soundly defeated in Sonoma County. Passage of Measure J would have led to a ban of most dairy and poultry farms, forever changing the landscape and culture of Sonoma County’s rich agricultural heritage. Agricultural Council of California’s (Ag Council) dairy co-op members – Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Land O'Lakes, Inc. – participated in the successful opposition effort through a partnership with Sonoma County Farm Bureau and joined by others in the dairy community. The historically large victory sent a clear message from voters about the importance of family farms in California. “We viewed this ballot measure as the potential starting point of additional challenges for the dairy industry,” Melvin Medeiros, chairman of DFA’s Western Area Council and Ag Council’s dairy committee said. “We knew immediately that we had to engage and support the locals in their effort to defeat this measure at home.” Ag Council President Emily Rooney Rooney said, “The outcome of Measure J shows that Sonoma County voters value local, family farms and California-produced ag products, which are part of the fabric of the community.” Full statement: https://lnkd.in/ge52BQ9K

Agricultural Council of California was happy to host a talented group of interns from Farm Credit Services of Colusa-Glenn, ACA, this summer?at Farmers' Rice Cooperative in #WestSac. It's always rewarding to engage with the future leaders of California agriculture and support our members by providing their interns with meaningful exposure to the policy and advocacy work that shapes our industry. Investing in the next generation is essential to ensuring a vibrant future for agriculture in our state, and we are excited to continue fostering these valuable connections. ? Appreciation goes to Farmers' Rice Cooperative and Brice Lauppe for providing our group with a tour. *** Emily Rooney Tricia Geringer Jacob DeFant
