Registered Apprenticeships provide service members and veterans a unique earn-and-learn pathway to develop and expand technical skills. The Maine Construction Academy is particularly proud to not only serve veterans & service members through our programs, but be led by one! Thomas S., our Workforce & Apprenticeship Manager, is a veteran himself - serving for 20 years in the US Army (SFC. THOMAS SUTHERLAND, USA, RETIRED INFANTRYMAN, 2002-2022)! So, what are the benefits for an active-duty service member and/or veteran in becoming an apprentice? ?? Get paid while learning a new skill that is outside one’s military occupation; ?? Work alongside a mentor in a structured environment; ?? Receive credit for prior education and military service; ?? Earn nationally recognized credentials; ?? And, eligible veterans can use their GI Bill benefits & receive a tax-free monthly housing stipend! We’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (NAW)! Did you know that the number of tradeswomen increased by more than 80,000 since 2018, a growth of 28.3 percent.!* Part of this increase is due to the rise in Registered Apprenticeship offered to individuals, including women, that offers a learn-as-you-earn pathway with built-in support for the apprentice to succeed! We’re proud to serve #womeninconstruction and #womenapprentices at the Maine Construction Academy and look forward to serving many more in the future! We're celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (NAW)! At the Maine Construction Academy, one of the pre-apprenticeship pathways we offer is catered to the New Mainer population in our communities. Similar to our Construction Immersion Program with students across the State, this program includes more hands-on experiences for participants and english language studies specific to the construction industry to supplement their existing vocabulary (& help them succeed and be safe in the field). We're proud to say that this program has provided construction career & apprenticeship pathways for many of our participants!
