Industry analyst Shane Thomas shared commentary on recent earnings reports from a number of the OEMs in his Dec. 15 edition of Upstream Ag, highlighting the pricing approach AGCO, CNH and John Deere are taking when it comes to autonomous solutions. In its latest earnings report, AGCO reported its PTx Trimble sales and margins have been lower than the company expected this year. “Again, due to the decline in the industry, AGCO is excited about integrating the PTx system components into their portfolio,” Thomas said, “but haven’t seen the numbers they expected.” Thomas said that puts a strain and challenge on AGCO’s business, along with all the other headwinds impacting the equipment side of the business with a down market. During Ag Equipment Intelligence’s 2025 Executive Briefing Dec. 10-11, Marc Johnson, principal with Pinion, provided an economic outlook for the ag equipment industry. Johnson emphasized several primary factors dealers will want to look out for in the coming year, including: bonus depreciation, interest rate reduction, corn prices, and manufacturer response. “There are a few things that they need to be looking for,” he said. “And if they happen, things will go well. And if they don’t, they’ll be challenging.” First among the factors to watch, Johnson said, is what the government does with bonus depreciation, noting it could be fixed during the lame duck session of Congress. “If we get back to a bonus depreciation fix, that’s 100%, everybody’s going to be excited to buy equipment again and get that write off that farmers so desire.
