Heidi had first heard of an Out of the Darkness Walk by a concerned friend. Just a few months before Heidi had lost her son and, during her years as a teacher, five students to suicide. Heidi decided to bring resources like "After a Suicide: A Toolkit for Schools" and the "Model School District Policy on Suicide Prevention" to her school in an effort to fight stigma and save lives. When Janine's adopted daughter Samona unexpectedly took her life, she couldn't help but feel at fault. Janine first started noticing Mona's depression symptoms in high school. "What’s so crazy is how glorious she was to us. She couldn’t see herself through our eyes. That’s the tragedy of depression."
