To prospective graduate students applying to Cornell, the African Graduate Students Association at Cornell University (AfriGA Cornell) is a new and yet another resource you may leverage to ask questions about life in Ithaca as well as graduate school experience at Cornell. Prospective postdocs and faculty should also feel free to reach out. This is a very interesting initiative with lots of supportive programs in the pipeline and I am honored to serve as their first faculty advisor. Kudos to the leadership team AMINAT Ibrahim MSc, GMNSE (president), Oluwafemi Adu, Glory Agun, Omobolanle Akinniyi, Emmanuel Sunday Ameh, Chiamaka Ezeh and Ayomide Oloyede.

#supportingStudents! Thrilled to have been the founding #President of this wonderful association. 3 years of conceiving this idea, and a whole semester of bringing it to life with my great team. When I transitioned from Nigeria, I remember searching tirelessly for any association tailored to Africans at Cornell University that could probably relate to some of my struggles, but found none. Due to my struggles at the time, I started the semesterly #International_Students_Chat, to serve as a platform where people provide succor for one another. However, that wasn’t enough as we only met once a semester. Fast forward to the Summer of 2022, Oluwafemi Adu reached out and suggested we have an hangout with the incoming students. Luckily most people agreed and we had our very first “meetup” and started the “unofficial Nigerian grad students group”. Following that, I have led the team to organize yearly potluck event for new and returning students, and we’ve grown in number over the years. The thoughts to be a registered association on campus started ringing in my head and I took a bold step to start conversations around this. Lo and behold! Here we are ??. It is with utmost joy that I present our association - the African graduate students association at Cornell. It is in my hope that AfriGA Cornell becomes a #home away from home, a place where we provide support for both incoming and returning students. Special shoutout to the team and to our advisor Zeribe Nwosu! We hope to see you, to know you, and to have you participate!
