On November 19, we held a dynamic media workshop in Accra as part of the #SIIPSreport2024 launch event, marking our second collaboration with Co-Develop to reinforce journalists' capacities on Inclusive Instant Payment Systems (IIPS) and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). This year, we focused on practical examples and the vital link between these concepts in advancing financial inclusion. The workshop brought together 22 journalists on-site and 49 virtual participants from countries including Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya, Cameroon, and Ghana. A special thank you to Co-Develop Robert Karanja Garikai Nhongo, MCIM for their invaluable support in making this initiative a success! What does it mean to drive #inclusion? Last week, I joined my team and other payment systems experts for the launch of the #SIIPS report by AfricaNenda. The report provides information and data on the outlook for the development and deployment of #instantpayment systems across Africa. Using an established metric that measures the level of #inclusivity, countries can better understand what more can be done to ensure their instant payment systems, like mobile money, truly include everyone. Beyond everything, I am excited about the standards and guidance this report offers to countries seeking to roll out solutions that drive inclusion. And also the importance of this report for advancing the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals, particularly those focused on reducing inequalities, fostering economic growth, and driving financial inclusion. This year’s report also touched on the importance of Digital Public Infrastructure in advancing digital inclusion. It’s heartwarming to see that Ghana’s instant payment infrastructure, which powers mobile money interoperability, instant account transfers, and GhQR, was recognized as having achieved a “progressed level of inclusivity”.
