Reclaiming Ancestral Wisdom: Ifeoma Ebo’s Transformative Exhibition in Abuja The CPDI Africa Gallery and Hub at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, recently hosted Reparations in Public Space: Reclaiming Ancestral Intelligence, a groundbreaking exhibition by Nigerian-American architect, urban planner, and artist Ifeoma Ebo. Through a powerful fusion of traditional African textiles, AI-generated architectural imagery, and thought-provoking narratives, Ebo’s work explores themes of ancestral memory, sacred spaces, and cultural reconnection. The exhibition has sparked deep reflections on African identity, spirituality, and the role of public spaces in cultural healing. Attendees described the experience as both emotional and enlightening, with CPDI Africa Coordinator Nmadili Okwumabua emphasizing its impact: “It challenges us to think about where we go when we need to rest, find peace, and reconnect with our heritage.” Beyond its artistic significance, the exhibition aligns with Ebo’s mission of using urban planning and design as tools for cultural reparations and social justice. Supported by Creative Urban Alchemy LLC, this initiative highlights the importance of honoring ancestral knowledge in shaping modern African cities. The President of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) and immediate past President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE), Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS and the former Director General of the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) and Vice President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Professor Umar Dambata, met yesterday, Thursday, November 21,2024 at the academy's liaison office, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) building, Jabi, Abuja. The two Engineering Academy leaders explored initiatives aimed at enhancing the contribution of engineering in addressing critical #infrastructure gaps, and fostering #sustainable innovation in the engineering sector. The duo identified the vital contributions experts in the engineering sector play and called on the federal government to partner with the academy in standardizing #engineering practices and #innovations in the country.
