The African Women Conference (AWC) remains steadfast in its dedication to healthcare and women’s welfare through various initiatives. A recent collaboration involves AWC-Next, the youth wing of AWC, which has been instrumental in distributing menstrual products to high school girls at Chipata Open Community School in Zambia. This initiative is supported Project Life Design Ltd , serving as a facilitator, and utilizes products developed by Ann Rhodes. Chipata Open Community School is part of the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) network, which supports numerous community schools across Zambia. ZOCS empowers communities to provide quality basic education to over 125,000 students in more than 650 demonstration community schools across 51 districts in all ten provinces of the country. By addressing menstrual health needs, this initiative not only promotes the well-being of young women but also supports their educational pursuits by reducing absenteeism related to menstrual challenges. This effort aligns with AWC’s broader mission to enhance women’s health and welfare across Africa. #Awc #awcnext #sexualandreproductivehealth #menstrualhealth #LUSAKA #zambia

??? AWC-Next at the African Women in Law Campaign! ??? We are honored to attend the Gender Equality in Law Campaign (GELC) Regional Consultative and Stakeholder Engagement with the African Union Office of the Legal Counsel (AU OLC), hosted by the African Women in Law, under the leadership of Dr. Jarpa Dawuni, Executive Director of the organization. The event is supported by Her Excellency Meaza Ashenafi, former Chief Justice of Ethiopia, and Her Excellency Prof. Hajer Gueldich, Legal Counsel to the AU. The AU Legal Counsel emphasized that countries must do more than just adopt and ratify laws they must focus on the Triple As: Awareness, Advocacy, and Activation through domestication of inclusive and non-discriminatory legal frameworks. Prof. Gueldich also recognized the power and passion of the youth, stating that their dedication to gender equality and women’s empowerment fuels even greater motivation for all of us. Dr. Jarpa Dawuni delivered a powerful speech highlighting the progress Africa has made in gender representation. She proudly noted that the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights now has the highest number of female judges, a major milestone for women in law across the continent. At AWC-Next, we are inspired by this message, and we will continue to harness the energy of the youth to ensure meaningful change for women across Africa. ?????? #GELC #BreakTheActNotTheLaw #SupportWomenInLaw #SayYesToEqualPay #SayYesToEqualPromotion #SayNoToGenderBiasAndStereotypes #SayNoToSexualHarassment #WomenInCharge #ChampionWomenLeaders #WomenInLeadershipMatters #HerLeadershipCounts #HeForShe #EqualityCantWait #InspireInclusion

?? A Journey of Purpose, Intercultural Sharing, and Discovery in Tigray ?? As part of our mission to support the post-conflict recovery in the Tigray region, the AWC-Next team was privileged to embark on a meaningful journey. Beyond our outreach efforts to support education and the community, we had the opportunity to explore the rich history and culture that Tigray has to offer, deepening our bond as a team while engaging in powerful intercultural exchanges among Africans. Our journey took us to some of the most historically significant sites in the region, offering a unique opportunity to learn from and appreciate the diverse heritage of our continent: ?? Axum – The ancient city of Axum, known for its historic tombs and obelisks, represents one of the earliest and most influential civilizations in Africa. Home to towering structures that are over 1,700 years old, it was a powerful reminder of Africa’s deep and rich history of innovation and leadership. ?? Al Nejashi Mosque – One of the oldest mosques in Africa, built in the 7th century, Al Nejashi symbolizes the harmony and tolerance between different religions in Ethiopia. This mosque stands as a testament to the historical bond between Ethiopia and the Islamic world, and it was an inspiring moment of intercultural sharing as we reflected on Ethiopia’s tradition of religious coexistence. ?? Shire – This historic town, significant both in ancient and modern history, provided us with a humbling experience. Walking through Shire’s streets, we were moved by the stories of strength, resilience, and hope, learning more about the culture of the people who continue to rebuild and thrive. As we journeyed, we also passed through other historic regions such as Degua Temben, Tsaeda Emba, and the iconic Adwa, where the Battle of Adwa marked a defining moment in African resistance against colonialism. These places further enriched our understanding of Tigray’s historical and cultural significance, reminding us of the resilience and strength of the Ethiopian people. This journey was a profound experience of learning and intercultural exchange. Our team came away not only more connected as colleagues but also deeply inspired by the diverse histories and cultures we encountered. It reinforced the importance of mutual understanding and sharing among Africans as we work towards the common goal of sustainable development across our continent. Together, through education, peacebuilding, and community empowerment, we will continue to build bridges and create lasting impact across Africa. #InterculturalSharing #Teamwork #AfricanHistory #Axum #AlNejashi #Shire #DeguaTemben #TsaedaEmba #Adwa #Tigray #AWCNext #EducationForAll #CommunityBuilding #AfricaUnite

?? Education: A Fundamental Human Right ?? Education is not just a requirement—it is a basic human right. Every child deserves the opportunity to access free education, as enshrined in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and other human rights instruments. AWC-Next is proud to stand alongside Zeru Business Group and the African Students Union in advocating for education in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, which is currently in the midst of post-conflict recovery. Our team has reached out to children and women in IDP centers and an NGO in Mekelle, providing much-needed sanitary napkins, exercise books, and pens to ensure young girls and boys can return to school and continue their education. A special thanks goes to our convenors, Dr. Junmai Amadu, Dr. Marta Namundjebo and Dr. Zeru Gebrelibanos, the visionary founder of Zeru Business Group. Dr. Zeru has made a remarkable commitment by donating over 6 million birr to build seven schools in various parts of the region. His generosity and dedication to education extend far beyond Tigray—he is a national figure working for the advancement of all Ethiopians. As we celebrate the peace achieved in Tigray, we reaffirm our commitment to securing a future of lasting peace and sustainable development for the region and for all of Africa. Together, we will ensure that the next generation has the tools and opportunities they need to thrive. #TigrayWillLearn #Ethiopia #EducationForAll #PeaceAndDevelopment #AWCNext #ZeruBusinessGroup #AfricanUnity
