During a recent speech, #DonaldTrump questioned U.S. spending in #Lesotho, calling it a country “nobody has ever heard of.” Well, we can fix that! Here are 5 things you should know about this fascinating African nation: 1?? A Country Within a Country ?? Lesotho is one of only three nations in the world that are completely surrounded by another country—in this case, South Africa (the others are Vatican City and San Marino). Despite its close economic ties with its neighbor, Lesotho proudly maintains its own culture, language, and governance. 2?? Turning Water Into Wealth ?? Lesotho might be small, but it’s a big player in water exports. Through the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), the country supplies South Africa with fresh water via massive dams like Katse and Mohale—a valuable resource that fuels both economies. 3?? A Denim Powerhouse for the U.S. Market ?? Lesotho is a key supplier of jeans to the United States! Thanks to trade agreements like AGOA, its thriving textile industry produces denim for major American brands like Levi’s, Wrangler, and Gap, making it a standout player in Africa’s garment sector. 4?? Where Africa Meets the Alps ?? Think Africa has no ski resorts? Think again! Lesotho is home to Afriski, the highest ski resort in sub-Saharan Africa, sitting 3,222m above sea level in the Maluti Mountains. When winter hits, this hidden gem becomes a hotspot for skiing and snowboarding. 5?? Sky-High Dams ??? Lesotho is home to some of Africa’s tallest dams, including the 185m-high Katse Dam, which plays a key role in hydropower and water supply for the region. So, if you know someone who has never heard of Lesotho, share this post with them! ?????? #Lesotho #Trump #AfricanFacts #TrumpSpeech #AfricaPrime

Each year, the Academy Awards serve as a reflection of Hollywood’s evolving identity—a space where tradition meets reinvention, where the past lingers in the folds of a gown or the cadence of an acceptance speech. At the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the 97th edition of the #Oscars was no exception, blending cinematic triumphs with fashion moments that paid homage to the industry’s golden age while embracing the present with quiet confidence. #CynthiaErivo, nominated for #Wicked and on the cusp of joining the exclusive EGOT club, arrived in a Louis Vuitton velvet gown that carried echoes of old Hollywood. Jason Bolden’s styling emphasized classic sophistication, allowing the rich texture of the fabric to speak for itself. Lupita Nyong’o, always a master of red carpet poise, chose #Chanel—an intricate bustier gown that shimmered under the lights, its delicate gemstone straps a quiet nod to the house’s storied craftsmanship. The evening’s color of choice was unmistakable: red. ???? It appeared in bold flourishes, as if #Hollywood itself had chosen a signature hue for the night. Colman Domingo, nominated for his performance in Sing Sing, made a striking statement in Valentino—a double-breasted blazer in deep crimson, paired with black trousers. Elsewhere, #HalleBerry arrived in a silver Christian Siriano creation, a gown composed of intricate mirror-like embellishments that caught and refracted the light with every step. But beyond the spectacle of the red carpet, the evening belonged to cinema. ???? #Anora dominated the night, winning Best Picture and securing Sean Baker the awards for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Mikey Madison’s performance earned her Best Actress, while Adrien Brody’s role in The Brutalist won him Best Actor. Zoe Salda?a and Kieran Culkin were honored in the supporting categories, their performances adding depth and texture to a year of remarkable storytelling. ? #AfricaPrime brings you the best looks from the 2025 Oscars! ? #Oscars2025 #AcademyAwards #RedCarpetFashion #HollywoodGlamour #Cinema #AfricaPrime #Oscars

  • For our last Black History Month Wednesdays series, the Africa Prime team decided to pay tribute to this beautiful mother-son duo: Mamie and Emmett Till. ????? In 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till left his home in Chicago to visit family in Mississippi. What should have been a simple summer trip turned into one of the most horrific racial injustices in American history. Accused of whistling at a white woman, he was brutally lynched by white men, his body unrecognizable when it was found days later. The shocking violence of his murder—and the fact that his killers were acquitted—exposed the deep racial hatred in the U.S. and ignited a national movement. ?? But Emmett’s story didn’t end there—because of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. A grieving mother, she made a decision that changed history: she held an open-casket funeral, forcing the world to witness the brutal reality of racism. Her courage sparked outrage, activism, and a renewed fight for civil rights. Mamie never stopped demanding justice, turning her pain into power and becoming a key voice in the movement for equality. Mamie and Emmett Till's story is one of a mother’s love and a child’s stolen future. Their legacy reminds us why Black History Month is necessary: to remember, to educate, and to keep pushing for change.????? #BlackHistoryMonth #MamieTill #EmmettTill #CivilRights #AfricaPrime

  • ?? "I believe it is important to speak about Africa because Africa is not one simple thing. Africa is very complex. It is not a fiction, it is not an invention—it is a continent with a history, with a difficult history, but also with tremendous potential." – Chinua Achebe Too often, Africa is reduced to a single story—one that overlooks its depth, strength, and brilliance. But as Achebe reminds us, Africa is not a myth or a monolith. It is a tapestry of histories, cultures, and futures waiting to be told by Africans themselves. At Africa Prime, we’re here to share the narratives that matter—the stories that showcase the talent, innovation, and vision shaping the continent today. ?? ?
