Is it data? Somewhat. Is it knowledge? Partly. Is it passion? Definitely! This is what defined the dynamic presentations and voices heard at the Bridging Markets: German-African IT & BPO Summit, held yesterday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
I was truly honored to deliver a keynote address on the Opportunities and Challenges of the African Market for the GBS/BPO Sector. My presentation delved into:
- A Global Overview of the GBS/BPO Market, contextualizing Africa's position.
- Insights into Africa’s GBS/BPO Market Share and Size, highlighting growth and potential.
- Country GBS/BPO highlights on C?te d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda.
- Projections on Future Growth Potential within the sector.

- Volker Maiborn, Chairman of the Advisory Board of MaibornWolff GmbH, who shared strategies for German IT companies entering and thriving in Africa.
- Rita N. Soni, Principal Analyst at Everest Group, who spoke passionately about Impact Sourcing and creating value with purpose.
A thought-provoking panel discussion, wonderfully moderated by Sharmi Surianarain, Chief Impact Officer of Harambee, unpacked What Makes Africa Special for the ITO/BPO Sector leaders. Panelists included:
- Martin Roe, CEO of CCI Global
- Ethel Cofie, CEO of EDEL Technology Consulting
- Christian Ruckteschler, COO of AmaliTech
- Stefanie Simon, Founder of Dartex Solutions
- Alaa Aridhi, Global Head of Fundraising, Tunisia, Westerwelle Foundation.
Passionate and heartfelt country presentations showcasing C?te d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Tunisia and their unique value propositions were delivered at the close of the proceedings.
The discussions throughout the day, expertly moderated by Loise Mboo, emphasized Africa’s growing stature as a global outsourcing hub, driven by a vibrant talent pool, cost advantages, and technological advancements. Yet, challenges remain that require collaborative effort to overcome.
It was inspiring to be among key stakeholders, from German investors to industry leaders, who are shaping the future of Africa’s digital economy.
