HIT Project Announcement: The AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust ?is helping to finance the new construction of Union Tower Apartments in National City, CA. The first phase of the large-scale redevelopment of the 22-acre National City Park Apartments site involves the demolition of two uninhabited residential buildings to construct 94 new affordable housing units across two 4- and 7-story buildings incorporating energy-efficient and green building design elements, including an all-electric design. Union Tower will provide new affordable housing units to National City residents earning up to 60% of the area median income, with 24 units set aside for previously unhoused veterans. Project Under Construction: Construction is underway at the new 44,100 sq ft Wayman Palmer YMCA Community Hub in Toledo, Ohio. The AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust's subsidiary, Building America CDE, Inc., allocated $8 million in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) to the project which includes demolishing the deteriorating existing facility and adding the 148,700 sq ft Inez Nash Park. Designed through extensive community input, it will offer traditional YMCA services alongside expanded offerings like a food bank, preschool programs, and mental health services. The hub aims to fill resource gaps for low-income residents, benefiting over 10,000 visitors annually, and will create 125 construction jobs and 50 permanent positions, including 13 for Toledo Federation of Teachers in the Head Start program. ? #Toledo #NMTC #aflciohit ?
