As part of Aflakiosk’s ongoing engagement efforts, we hosted our first 2025 stakeholders' meeting. This gathering brought together key players in the grain value chain to exchange insights, discuss challenges, and explore emerging opportunities within the grain sector. This marks the beginning of a series of stakeholder meetings planned for the year, aimed at fostering collaboration and strengthening connections across the industry. Such engagements are instrumental in driving meaningful partnerships in the sector.

Today, Aflakiosk Uganda participated in the Grain Value Chain Stakeholders Meeting organized by the IFC - International Finance Corporation Uganda in collaboration with The Grain Council of Uganda (TGCU), Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), and Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF)at the district headquarters in Mubende. The meeting brought together traders, farmers, aggregators, and key public officials within the area, with a major focus on quality control in the maize value chain. It has been echoed that stakeholders can only access premium/high-value markets if they follow quality control procedures throughout the pre-and post-harvest handling activities. The meeting was moderated by the District Production & Marketing Officer, Kisakye Frederick, and key facilitations were held by the IFC representative, Humphrey Mutaasa. Solomon Lukoda, our Food Scientist at Aflakiosk Laboratories in Mubende facilitated the audience concerning the parameters associated with the grading of maize in accordance with US EAS 2:2017 Maize Grain Specifications. He also highlighted the advantages associated with the use of Aflakiosk's quality testing services, capacity building, and market linkages.

The 2025 Season A maize harvest is currently underway, but farmers are still facing challenges with post-harvest handling. Insufficient infrastructure and limited resources to support farmers remain a significant issue, causing many to dry their maize in the fields. Aflakiosk team is working in Eastern province to offer capacity-building programs for farmers, aiming to improve their post-harvest handling practices. We are also providing quality testing services to ensure that farmer's produce is free from aflatoxin, and is connected to the premium markets. #Testing #Aflatoxin #Harvest
