For the second year, we had the privilege to participate in a community focused program called the Real Estate Awareness and Diversity Initiative (READI) program, organized by the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego. The mission of this program is to promote real estate as a career path for high school students in underserved communities by inviting them to visit various San Diego real estate companies. Our team hosted a group of high school students from the Junior Achievement of San Diego County organization and shared various career pathways in commercial real estate and affordable housing. Thanks for visiting Junior Achievement!? #AffordableHousingCareers
Through collaborative efforts, young people are introduced to career pathways in leading San Diego industries. Students in JA Fellows had a job shadow at Affirmed Housing to learn about the affordable housing and real estate industry. Thank you to Jimmy Silverwood, Mellody Lock, Jeff Edgren, Bryna Geary, Ruren Clemente, Brady Cahill, Breanna Cathers, and Tyler Rich for taking the time to speak with our students. And thank you to the USD Readi Program for coordinating this real estate career exploration series. #InspiringYouthwithJA #careerexploration #jobshadow

Meet Jimmy! Jimmy worked for years in North Hollywood and Downtown LA as a bar-back and washing cars. He lived with his brother until his brother decided to move due to the expensive cost of living. When his brother left, Jimmy began to experience major health issues, including a stroke and multiple heart attacks. He struggled to find a job that would accommodate his disabilities, and without a support system, he started experiencing homelessness. He lived in a park and slept under a bus shelter while still taking odd jobs as he found them. While living without shelter, he was approached by outreach workers who connected him with PATH. He moved into PATH’s interim housing, and a few months later, he was able to move into his studio apartment at PATH Metro Villas! Now that he has a home, Jimmy enjoys taking walks and keeping his space tidy. Live in LA? You can vote to strengthen the services that helped Jimmy make it home. Measure A (The Bold New Way) is a countywide measure on the ballot this November! It will guarantee funding for the outreach and services that helped Jimmy and increase affordable housing and homelessness prevention for people across LA. Register to vote (vote.gov) and vote YES on Measure A! #vote #yesonA #endhomelessness
