We're still celebrating the anniversary of our newest health center! Last year at this time Affinia Healthcare was warmly received in Ferguson! The expansion into North St. Louis County was the result of a community health assessment which identified areas where unmet primary health care needs are prevalent. The project came to fruition in part due to a congressionally directed funding requested by U.S. Representative Cori Bush. At our state-of-the art facility we offer medical, dental and behavioral care. We also offer midwifery services which are provided by certified nurse-midwives/family nurse practitioners and much more. This past Saturday the Affinia Healthcare Ferguson health center celebrated one year of providing high-quality health care to patients in North County! On a sunny & brisk fall morning on November 2, 2023, Affinia Healthcare staff, partners, and community members celebrated the opening of the newest health center with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. The Affinia Healthcare at Ferguson, located near West Florissant & I-270, provides medical, dental and behavioral health care to the North County community. The Ferguson health center is also a partnership with the neighboring Emerson YMCA -- the first of its kind in the St. Louis area -- offering a holistic approach to healthy living. Last week, the City of St. Louis Department of Health hosted #PrEP Week—a week full of activities aimed at educating the community about PrEP, how to access it, and its impact on sexual health. I had the honor of participating as a panelist, discussing the importance of PrEP uptake among Black and Brown women in an event hosted by THE COMMUNITY WELLNESS PROJECT. Given that women's sexual and reproductive rights have only been recognized in the last century, conversations like this bring up complex issues affecting our sexual health decisions. At Affinia Healthcare, we created an HIV timeline to educate our patients on the history and advancements in HIV prevention. These efforts underscore the importance of community education and open dialogue in advancing health equity.
