Programming for #EIESummit2024 ended with a bang during our closing fireside chat sponsored by Accenture Federal Services and moderated by Jason Miller, Executive Editor at Federal News Network. James Wolff, Associate Administrator for Information Management and CIO at National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and John Zepper, Executive Director for Information and Security Engineering and CIO at Sandia National Laboratories filled us in on what their respective agencies are currently doing to drive the EIE mission forward. The highlights? Adopting and optimizing commercial tools, bolstering their zero trust security postures and, to put it simply, working to “save money and go faster.” Thanks for giving us a look behind the curtain! #AFCEA #AFCEABethesda

It was a packed room for our breakout session, “Modernizing Energy Infrastructure: Embracing Innovation and Resilience” sponsored by SAIC. As technology evolves, the workforce must evolve with it. Agencies need employees who can think critically, opportunities to upskill those employees for the future, and technology vendors who learn their missions and stay engaged at every step along the way. Thank you Tony Brannum (USDA), Greg Doan (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Andrew Petry (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), William Watkins, M.S., CISSP, PMP (National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Renee Wynn (RP Wynn Consulting) for the lively discussion! #EIESummit2024 #AFCEA #AFCEABethesda

#AI is not just a software according to the #EIESummit2024 panel on "Harnessing Intelligence: The Power of AI and Data in Today's World" sponsored by Red River. It was an insightful discussion with Christopher Alvares (USDA), Dr. Seth Berl, PhD (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Victor Hall (U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission), Shawn Wang (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and moderated by Frank Konkel (GovExec) exploring topics like how to use #AI in nuclear power plants, a #GenAI pilot and other emerging technologies at DOE, and how the USDA wants to take advantage of #AI opportunities but recognize their limitations on funding for investments in new technology. #AFCEA #AFCEABethesda

The members of our “Emerging Technologies and the Future of Work” breakout panel sponsored by Planet Technologies had lots of actionable advice to share for getting employees off the proverbial “hamster wheel” and on board with adopting emerging technologies like AI. The key? Willingness. The train is going to leave the station either way and you have to convince your team to climb aboard! Proper training, education, and open communication help immensely. Thank you to Kenneth Harrison, CISSP, CGRC (U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General), Isaac E. Hernandez, PMP (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), Javier Inclán, Ed.D. (U.S. National Science Foundation Office of Inspector General), Cara Rose, PMP (NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration), and Ray McCollum, MSPM, CPCM (National Science Foundation (NSF) for enlightening us! #EIESummit2024 #AFCEA #AFCEABethesda

Diving into the 'Identifying, Prioritizing, and Managing Cyber Risks' panel sponsored by Oracle with Thomas Millar (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency), Paul Selby (U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Maria McClelland (Oak Ridge National Laboratory), Stan Lowe (U.S. Department of the Interior), Amir Dastouri (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). What keeps these professionals up at night? Topics included Good AI, Bad AI, Governance of AI, PQC, Workforce retention, staying consistent on cyber policies and much more but there is always positivity when so many attendees gather to listen and share cyber expertise in order to grow, learn and succeed. #EIESummit2024 #AFCEA #AFCEABethesda

Enabling clean, efficient, reliable, and secure energy is a goal that requires collaboration across government and industry to accomplish. That’s the common sentiment our opening panelists shared during #EIESummit2024! “We may have resources but partnerships are critical; we deliver on the mission together.” Thank you to Darren Ash, CIO at the U.S. Department of the Interior, Brian E., CIO at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Vaughn Noga, CIO at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Cordell Schachter, CIO at the U.S. Department of Transportation, and Francis Rose, Host of Fed Gov Today for inspiring us to come together to strengthen our nation’s energy infrastructure! And thank you to NetApp for sponsoring our opening panel. #AFCEA #AFCEABethesda

#EIESummit2024 is officially underway! Ann Dunkin, CIO at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Clare Martorana, CIO at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget are kicking things off with our opening fireside chat sponsored by Booz Allen Hamilton and getting us thinking about all the ways that emerging technologies like AI and ML are opening doors for energy innovation within the federal government. “AI is not brand new but in government, it has been a seismic event.” #AFCEABethesda #AFCEA
