For the past two years, I have had the privilege to be the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Aerospace Village. During this time, we have grown and continue the enjoy increasing support from our incredible volunteers who serve on the operational side which enables us to participate in various events and conferences, along with our Directors who also volunteer their time and expertise to provide guidance and oversight as we continue to grow our partnerships and focus on key efforts that ensure we meet our mission and fundraising objectives. I’m proud to announce we have two new Directors joining us in 2025. ? Elizabeth Wharton – a longtime friend of the Aerospace Village, Liz brings her diverse background as a C-suite executive and award-winning legal and public policy expertise to our Board. She has seen first-hand the importance of cybersecurity in the aerospace sector having previously served as the Senior Assistant City Attorney responsible for advising on technology projects at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (the World's Busiest Airport), especially during her work integrating drones and as part of the 2018 ransomware incident response team. Pete Cooper – a familiar name to our group as one of the founding members behind the initial efforts to create the Aviation, now Aerospace Village, and our first Executive Director. He brings a perspective from both the operational and technical sides of aerospace cybersecurity issues based on his service in the Royal Air Force as a fast jet pilot and in his public and private sector roles, notably serving one of the UK’s first-ever Cyber Operations leads and former Deputy Director of Cyber Defence, UK Cabinet Office and is now at Microsoft as General Manager, EMEA, CSMO. ? Thank you to Liz and Pete for joining us, and an additional thank you to all our volunteers who make this all possible!

Imagine your mini-fridge-sized satellite turning rogue and playing bumper cars in orbit. This?article via Satellite Today by our own Henry Danielson?explores a chilling scenario where a hacked cubesat becomes a stealthy space weapon, highlighting the urgent need for robust cybersecurity in our rapidly expanding space endeavors. https://lnkd.in/gEA8HCwv

Our own Jacob Oakley went over to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, California this past weekend to give students and faculty a talk on Unlocking Satellites & Cybersecurity. He covered an intro to space, the effects of space compromise, and how it ties into cybersecurity. The talk went well; afterward, he signed some books and chatted with the attendees.
A big thank you to California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo for having me out to speak to #aerospace and #computer science students on the future of space system cybersecurity. It was great spending time with my fellow Aerospace Village member Henry Danielson as he showed me around campus and beautiful SLO Cal.

Anyone else think that Punxsutawney Phil was wrong this year? It wasn't 8 more weeks of waiting for the Aerospace Village Call for Presentations and Call for Workshops. It was just 4! I am please to announce that the Aerospace Village has now opened the Call for Presentation for DEF CON 33! We are looking for engaging topics and talks in space systems, aircraft systems, drones, and airports/ground support. The link for the form can be found on the website or here: https://lnkd.in/gYbvNsjA But that's not all: We are also opening the Call for Workshops. Our workshops were well attended at DC32, so we're bringing it back! Last year, we had talks ranging from drone hacking, cubsat development, and ground stations of all flavors. Have an interesting workshop you've been building out? Let's get you in front of a group of hackers hungry to learn! The link for the form can be found on the website or here: https://lnkd.in/ge7bM83S Want to check out the village site instead? Here's the link to both forms and our site: https://lnkd.in/gxfVYR5t Both forms will close April 19, 2025 so the Aerospace Village team can review proposals and contact our selected speakers the next two weeks.

Henry Danielson and?Dr. Bruce DeBruhl had a great time presenting at CactusCon in Arizona on February 14, 2025! It was standing room only to about 500 people. The presentation covered our?report that offers a scenario-prompt generator—a taxonomy of sorts, called the?ICARUS matrix—that can create more than 4 million unique scenario-prompts. General awareness around it may be low, space cyberattacks are an increasingly urgent problem given the vital role that space systems play in the modern world.?Head to https://lnkd.in/gNe3XJ2w for more information!
