As we tackle the challenge of feeding a growing population sustainably, innovation in agriculture is essential. On #InternationalWomenDay, we’re proud to recognize all the women at AeroFarms who are helping us on our mission. We asked three women across our farm operations and business teams about their career path and what #AgTech can do to #AccelerateAction for women in the industry. Here are their responses:? Joi Luck, Production Manager, B/D-Crew - Farm Operations Management? After working 20+ years in the restaurant industry, I walked away due to the pandemic. The passion for service I once felt was diminished, so I decided to try my hand at a different food service industry.? AeroFarms has been a blessing. I have reclaimed my passion for food service but from a manufacturing standpoint. Seeing the process from seed to package is amazing and something I take pride in being a part of.? I believe more women would enter the field if they knew the impact of the work we do. Educating women about the Ag Tech industry and its benefits is going to be key in ensuring the future of farming keeps evolving. Kate Torpey, Director of Business Development - Sales, Marketing, Customer Service & Logistics? I joined AeroFarms in 2019 because I was excited to work at the intersection of healthy food and technology. Prior to this, I worked for a startup that connected local farms with restaurants in NYC, and AeroFarms was one of our suppliers! When the opportunity came to join the AeroFarms sales team, it was a no brainer. AeroFarms – and more broadly, the #CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) industry – has seen many changes, and I’m really proud of where we are today. Continuing to elevate women into leadership positions will inspire more women to join the industry. Ag Tech is a great field for women because it offers a range of opportunities across skill sets, all of which drive innovation, promote #sustainability, and shape the future of food.? Molly Montgomery, Executive Chair and CEO? As a veteran of the produce industry, I have a passion for growing and distributing food that can nurture the body and soul. I also have respect for the hard work required to ensure produce is in stores year-round. The rising frequency of natural disasters, declining yields of crops, and continued degradation of natural resources is making this task more difficult each year. As an engineer with experience in commercializing new technologies, I was attracted to understanding how #verticalfarming could provide greater food security. At AeroFarms, we can grow microgreens in any geography or climate, while using less land and water. CEA offers career opportunities that represent the future of farming. It uniquely combines plant science, horticulture, AI, and robotics with people who share a common purpose: feeding the world. The more we can share the success of companies like AeroFarms, the more talented and passionate people will seek to join our industry.

The dust has settled on Davos and this year’s World Economic Forum. I’ve been reflecting on quite a week, but a standout highlight was being invited to join the panel ‘On Firmer Ground with Land Restoration’. Land restoration and responsible resource use is central to our work at AeroFarms. The potential of innovative private sector companies to make a real impact in the space is something I was proud to have the opportunity to champion alongside Togmid Dorjkhand, Ibrahim Thiaw, Ismahane Elouafi, John Steenhuisen MP, Sir Andrew Steer and Adulatif Rashid. ???AeroFarms use 230 x less land to grow the same amount of microgreens as outdoor farming ???Because we do not use soil or pesticides, there is no soil degradation or runoff ? AeroFarms also uses 90% less water than traditional open field farming, and uses 100% renewable energy to run our farms Solutions to the challenges facing our natural world and food systems are here now. Here’s to building on the promising conversations held in Switzerland as we head further into 2025. #Davos #landrestoration #verticalfarming
