About this premier general aviation event: The Aero Club of New England (ACONE), America's First Aero Club, will hold its 35th annual in-person General Aviation (GA) safety evening on Thursday, April 10 from 6-9 PM, at the Boston Marriott in Burlington, MA. Admission is free. FAA WINGS credit is available for the event, which since 2024 has been renamed to honor Richard G. McSpadden. The program will start with a social hour and vendor exhibits at 6 PM allowing audience members to reconnect with old friends, as well as engage with local and national providers of GA products and services. Diette, ACONE Safety Programs Co-Chair and FAA FAASTeam Representative will provide reviews of regional accidents from 2024, with an expanded look at some significant accidents of the past several years. Bruce Landsberg, Former Vice Chairman of the NTSB, will present Contrarian Views - Learning From Icarus. Two pilots will also be recognized with the FAA's Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. Our first event of 2025 was held Thursday evening, January, 16 at the beautiful American Heritage Museum in Hudson, MA. An overwhelming turn out of Aero Club of New England members, as well as members from the American Heritage Museum were treated to a profound presentation from Tom Hudner III. Tom gave an inside look at the writing of the book "Devotion" which is a story about his father and Medal of Honor recipient Thomas J. Hudner Jr. and his wingman Jesse Brown, both U.S. Navy officers and F4U-4 Corsair pilots. Tom also gave a behind the scenes glimpse into the production of the award winning film "Devotion." We are deeply saddened to share that Anne Bridge Baddour, a trailblazer in aviation and a lifelong advocate for education, passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Anne dedicated her life to supporting those pursuing aviation careers, encouraging and mentoring countless individuals. She began her career at Revere Airport, working at the FBO run by longtime ACONE member Julius Goldman. Over the years, she achieved multiple pilot ratings, including single-engine land, multi-engine land, single-engine sea, and an instrument endorsement, as well as earning her Airline Transport Pilot license. From 1977 to 1997, Anne worked at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory Flight Test Facility, conducting airborne research for the Department of Defense and the FAA. She was the first female pilot hired by MIT, breaking barriers and inspiring others to follow. Anne’s dedication extended to aviation education. She supported the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Museum, serving on its board from 1998 to 2005, and also served on the board of Daniel Webster College, where she mentored countless students from 1995 to 2009. Her contributions to aviation were recognized with numerous awards, including: 1992 Amelia Earhart Medal of Honor (Ninety-Nines Pilot of the Year) 1998 International Clifford B. Harmon Trophy, Aviatrix 2000 ACONE Lifetime Achievement Award 2005 Women in Aviation Pioneer Hall of Fame 2018 Katharine Wright Memorial Trophy Anne competed in 16 air races and set multiple national and international speed records. She inspired thousands through speaking engagements, television appearances, and her work with ACE Camps, the Ninety-Nines, and women in aviation initiatives. Anne Bridge Baddour’s legacy is one of inspiration, scholarship, and leadership. She tirelessly advanced aviation and education, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
