The truth is, sexual abuse and assault cases are inherently complex and challenging to litigate, and it’s crucial that these cases are handled by attorneys with the appropriate experience and training (and who are trauma informed!). News stories like those out of New York yesterday are disheartening and highlight the further harm that victims can suffer due to an attorney's decisions Effective litigation in these cases involves much more than simply filing a complaint and organizing a press conference. The wrong attorney, regardless of their good intentions, can inadvertently jeopardize a case and negatively impact their clients— retraumatizing them especially after they have bravely chosen to come forward. At the National Crime Victim Bar Association (NCVBA), we take immense pride in our attorney members who are dedicated to fighting for justice on behalf of crime victims nationwide.
