On Wednesday evening, over 100 community leaders came together to celebrate AdventHealth's 50 years of providing whole-person care to those struggling with Behavioral Health issues. We also launched a fundraising campaign to further expand Behavioral Health services in the community. The program, moderated by Taylor Hemness, Anchor for KSHB 41, featured insightful discussions from panelists Kellie Strube, Rachel Goff, Amy Campbell, and Kevin Timmons about the mental health crisis in our community. Laurie McCormack, executive director, and Twyla Rist, board chair, announced AdventHealth Kansas City Foundation's $15 million campaign, with nearly $7 million already raised! This campaign will fund the completion of the first floor of the new behavioral health outpatient clinic, create a dedicated space for Intensive Outpatient Program on the second floor, and renovate the hospital's inpatient behavioral health unit allowing for expanded and new treatment modalities. Rebecca “Becky” Finke is the Nurse Program Manager for the AdventHealth Kansas City’s Forensic Nurse Program. In this role, she leads the team of nurses who provide specialty care 24/7 for patients of all ages affected by sexual assault, physical assault, intimate partner violence and abuse, and neglect, including victims of human trafficking. Becky and her fellow nurses are specially trained to provide emotional and physical care for victims of abuse and assist law enforcement with bringing criminals to justice. Her reach goes beyond the hospital, lending her voice and expertise to Kansas City audiences through KCUR 89.3 by educating the public on resources for people experiencing abuse, and to legislators by advocating for the work of forensic nursing. In March 2024, Becky represented the Kansas Chapter of the International Association of Forensic Nurses on Capitol Hill advocating for policies to improve patient access, support forensic nursing and funding of the Violence Against Women Act. There, she met with U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids from Kansas who agreed to join the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence after meeting with Becky and members of her group. Her colleagues have labeled Becky a hero, explaining that she is always available during a crisis and always lives out her personal mission of dismantling barriers with protecting patients when they are most vulnerable. Additionally, Becky educates Johnson County Community College nursing students about the forensic nursing field. She is also a member of the Kansas Chapter of International Association of Forensic Nurses serving as the secretary and is involved with the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for Johnson County and Wyandotte County, Kansas. She also volunteers, serving on the Board for the Johnson County Family Justice Center. Becky’s dedication to those she serves both in the hospital and in our region is what led her to be named a 2023 Community Service Award Winner at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
