Summer is in full-effect! ?? During this time, we recommend the following five tips for protecting yourself against the sun's powerful UV rays:
1. Use Sunscreen Daily: Apply sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection (against both UVA and UVB rays) every day, even on cloudy days. Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours, especially if you're outdoors.
2. Wear Protective Clothing: When possible, cover up exposed skin with clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, pants, and wide-brimmed hats. Look for clothing with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating for added protection.
3. Seek Shade: Limit your direct exposure to the sun during peak UV radiation hours, typically between 10 AM and 4 PM. If you're outdoors, try to stay in shaded areas, especially if you're spending extended periods outside.
4. Wear Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from UV radiation by wearing sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Look for sunglasses labeled as UV400 or providing 100% UV protection.
5. Avoid Tanning Beds: UV radiation from tanning beds can be as harmful as UV radiation from the sun. Avoid using tanning beds altogether to reduce your risk of skin damage and skin cancer.
These tips can help you protect your skin and eyes from the harmful effects of UV radiation over time.
