Another day in WIC week means another highlight! ??♀? Next we have Amy Mitchell from Sundt. Here’s what she had to say for?#womeninconsructionweek: “I lucked into construction – I was a sophomore in civil engineering and went for a construction internship partially because I thought the experience would make me a better engineer and largely because engineering firms didn’t want to hire an intern that had never used CAD. I ended up loving it - the problem-solving, the pace, the people, and I decided to pursue a career in construction instead of design. My advice to young women entering the field is to just go for it. When I first became a superintendent, I worried about whether I would be taken seriously because of my background or appearance. When I shared this with my project manager, he asked: “why stress about things that you can’t change? Control what you can control.†In my personal experience, the foremen that I’ve worked with simply do not care about the way I look – they just want a superintendent that they can trust to plan and problem-solve. I know that I can trust my team to have my back, and I will keep showing up to do my best every day. You just have to go for it - control what you can control, and don’t set limits for yourself.â€

Happy Women In Construction Week! ?? In celebration of it, AWIC will be spotlighting a few women in the construction industry. First up is Paulina Ruiz, a Senior Engineer from Holder Construction. Here's what she had to say: "I chose construction because of the long-lasting impact it would have for the end user and the great relationships that this industry provides. Just as our homes are places we live in that bring us comfort, I wanted to be a part of creating a good environment for those who enter the spaces I’ve helped build. My favorite part about my job is the relationships I’ve built that have blessed me with knowledge and guidance through my career. I’d say that the best advice I’ve received has been to speak my mind and share the thoughts and processes as everyone in the team can contribute to coming to a solution. I would like to share similar advice to young women that are entering the industry, be you, be bold, don’t be afraid to speak your mind, be hungry for knowledge and learn from your mistakes, because its okay to make them."
