?? At the NACCHO Relationship Building Symposium, we had the opportunity to envision the future of equitable public health! ?? Glenda E. Young-Márquez , MPH led participants through an insightful exercise exploring what a new, equitable Public Health Department could look like. Advancing Health Equity's Senior Consultant, Chiagbanwe (ChiChi) Enwere, MPH shared her group's thoughts on the critical elements needed to drive this vision forward. She highlighted the importance of accessibility, culturally responsive data practices, wider opportunities for community engagement, and mobility for health departments. It's these actionable changes that will help us create a more inclusive and equitable public health landscape. ?? ?? What an exceptional experience at NACCHO's Relationship Building Symposium! ?? I had the privilege of joining on behalf of Advancing Health Equity, alongside an inspiring group of public health and health equity leaders. Together, we explored strategies to facilitate multi-sector relationships, integrate health equity, and engage in community leadership. ?? One of my favorite exercises was led by the Council on Black Health and Liminal Spaces, where we dove into discussions on Equity in Communications. Using the "Turn The Curve Thinking" model, we broke into small groups to reflect on our progress, identify root causes, and brainstorm strategies to drive meaningful change. It was an impactful session that challenged us to think critically about our approach to advancing health equity. ?? Day #1 at NACCHO's Relationship Building Symposium kicked off with an enriching conversation led by Consilience Group, LLC! ?? Over 100 participants broke into four groups to explore what satisfying and productive relationships truly look like. We engaged in interactive table exercises, discussing shared connections and differences, and even drew pictures representing our insights. Advancing Health Equity's Chief Managing Director, Samantha Truman, participated in a group that highlighted respect, open communication, and vulnerability as key elements of strong relationships. She emphasized the importance of Psychological Safety as a defining trait of successful, high-functioning teams. ?? Her table chose an orchid to symbolize relationships—requiring nurturing, attention, and being in a constant state of growth and renewal. ?? We’ve been receiving tons of inquiries about our?Health Equity Champions Program, and we're thrilled to share some details with you all! ???What’s the Program All About??Our Health Equity Champions Program is designed to empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to advance health equity. By participating, you'll help create more inclusive, equitable, and patient-centered healthcare environments. ???When Does It Start??We have cohorts starting in January and June of each year. ???Who Can Participate??While we primarily work with organizations, we’ve expanded our efforts to include individuals. Whether your institution is ready to dive in or not, you can still join and make an impact! ???Brief Curriculum Highlights: Essential health equity concepts Culturally responsive care Emotional intelligence Psychological Safety Mentorship and Managing difficult conversations Improving Workforce Dynamics and Handling Challenging Patient Interactions ???What’s Included??Participants will engage in workshops, simulations, and online learning, with sessions typically lasting 1.5 hours, including 45-minute simulations. Recordings will be available for any missed sessions.
