It was just a matter of time. In the ever-changing landscape of sports business, I think most of us are not surprised by anything these days. No matter where you stand on the subject of NIL and the transfer portal, I think we can all agree we're living through one of the greatest shifts in the history of college sports. So yesterday's situation in Vegas, while certainly newsworthy, was simply the first of what will most likely be several scenarios that occur until the Wild West Era of NIL comes to an end. As we move forward in this new world, one area that cannot be stressed enough is the need for qualified, credible talent to stand up and help create a healthy, equitable college sports ecosystem that is sustainable. Now, some of these companies may not even exist yet. But some are out there and Advance Sports is here to help shine a light on them. Jake Rosenberg and The Athlete Group are doing everything they can to help solve some of the biggest issues in sports, including ensuring college players understand how to properly evaluate an agent and when to be vigilant about potential landmines that could arise when making important decisions about their futures. Every now and then we need to remind ourselves of what truly matters in life. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of trying to get ahead and accelerate our own professional journey. I talk to job seekers everyday and I know there is a lot a of stress, frustration and self-doubt out there right now. It can really skew your view of the world if you let it. I’m so grateful to all of you who have supported the mission of Advance Sports since we launched just seven months ago. We have shared success stories and have been proud to announce some very meaningful partnerships. But what has been most impactful to me is how much I feel empathy for the job seeker. Bootstrapping a business is the hardest thing I’ve ever done professionally. The constant outreach. The interesting meeting. The excitement. The ghosting. The rejection. Rinse and repeat. The roller coaster ride is real and not too far off from the sentiments I hear from job seekers daily. There are days you feel as confident as you ever have before, ready to take on the world. And there are nights you go to bed, questioning not only what you’re doing, but if you’re even good enough at all. But what I’ve learned as this journey continues to unfold is to keep myself centered on my purpose. For me, that’s my family. I keep this picture on my desk at all times. And I know many of you do the same with your own families. We do what we do for the people who mean the most. And through the ups and the downs, they’re the ones who are always in our corner. Bottom line - you know how much potential you have. You know greatness could be just one connection away. So keep pushing. You’ll get where you’re going. As they say, if it was easy, everyone would do it. And always remember your purpose.

I've always been fascinated by the evolution of our language and how "buzzwords" become so relevant (and often annoying) in business. And despite change being the only constant in life, I've always respected people, especially business leaders, that say what they mean to say and don't concern themselves with always trying to sound like the smartest person in the room. The traditional sports industry is facing a major wake-up call. ? Twenty years ago, landing a job in sports meant jumping through hoops for a minor league team, pro team, league office, stadium, or media outlet. Entry-level ticket sales jobs with low pay and long hours were the norm. “Ok, so $12k base salary, 60-70 hours per week, nights, weekends, occasional holidays AND I get a free schedule magnet every year?! Where do I sign?!” The days of candidates forming endless lines to take these kinds of jobs are numbered. Yes, some will always want to sell tickets for their favorite team. But for many, the endless grind and uncertain career progression are no longer worth it. Today's sports career landscape has dramatically changed. While still competitive, there are now many other options. The law of supply and demand is taking over. Sports Betting. Sports Tech. Digital Sports Media. ?? I’ve spoken to hundreds of job seekers who are just as excited about working for companies like DraftKings Inc. and Barstool Sports as they are for their favorite team. Sometimes it's more money. Sometimes it's better work/life balance. But there are now options. Want to work in a remote-first culture (with a lot of open roles) that values people who have a true underdog mentality? Check out Underdog Fantasy. How about an imaginative multi-plat media business that is converging sports, business and culture? Front Office Sports is looking for partnerships and events professionals to jump aboard the rocket ship. Or maybe VC and PE interest in the industry has caught your eye and you want to find leadership roles in sports tech startups? Research the portfolio companies of firms like SeventySix Capital and Phoenix Sports Partners. These are just a few examples. Agencies, consulting firms, and even Fortune 50 companies are seeking sports partnership and market strategy pros. The concept of sports as an asset class is now a reality. And finding top-tier talent to drive value growth is a priority. We’re entering an era of more opportunities and rewards for those who think differently.
