What a great panel discussion on AGBT - Advances in Genome Biology and Technology! Here are just a few snippets from the debrief (check to see when the entire episode is available on demand): Julianna LeMieux, moderator, said that one of the buzziest announcements came from Roche and the panelists were optimistic about the technology's chemistry, speed and scalability. The panelists agreed that, with all new technologies, the devil is in the details, and they discussed the pros and cons of being early adopters, especially in regard to existing instruments that are working well, and budget considerations--does it have an added value; what could we do that we cannot do now? Next Julianna remarked that the meeting was very multiomics, and much bigger into proteomics this year. Jessica Nordlund said it's more cells and more cells! Exciting and interesting to see what projects we can put on these new technologies (e.g. plate-based from 10x Genomics). Jasmine Plummer added she was happy to see Parse Biosciences (multi scale omics) and Scale Biosciences further down the pathway of stability so they can make adaptations to their kits. She explained that there is now maturity in this field, and we are in scalability which was not the case in beginning times. Julianna then discussed proteomics. Jessica was happy to see Olink Proteomics at AGBT and is excited to see about what will happen in the proteomics space. Catharine Aquino said she's a fan of Olink Reveal and has tested it. Julianna mentioned technologies doing new things in proteomics like Pixelgen Technologies, and how that technology is ushering in a new 'Ome. Charlie Johnson was pleased with Illumina and how their technology change will be a huge benefit to his clients. He also said that they want to focus on helping cores and that his lab experienced this, meeting with their core director. Juilanna said the spatial field has changed -- there are fewer companies and fewer at AGBT this year. Jasmine remarked that there is a different number of spatial companies at every AGBT meeting, however, this was the first AGBT where it's starting to stabilize. She is invested in all spatial, and said now Illumina is part of this landscape and the data looks good and having them in the market will have it start to solidify. She also said that it was interesting to learn the landscape and the vision of Bruker; they have a different vision, but big like 10x. From seq based into imaging based into spatial proteomics. With proteomics based sequencing, we have to start thinking about spatial sequencing. Bruker definitely already has a foundational adoption.?Catherine is interested in Stellaromics Inc. and that they can do bigger slices. Jasmine liked seeing machines like Volta Labs, Inc.
