Say hello to our team champions, Tonie Moore RN BSN MSOL (pictured right), Director of Nursing for Denver Health's primary care clinics, and Kodi Toussaint (pictured left), Dental Practice Manager for Denver Health's Eastside and Westside clinics! Working here isn't just a job to them - it's a progression of a remarkable legacy and a steady commitment to creating opportunities for others. They are a part of a larger narrative that goes back to the trailblazing Black medical professionals who've shaped our health care scene over history. Think of icons like Dr. Justina Ford, Colorado’s first Black female doctor, or Dr. Bernard F. Gipson Sr., the state’s first Black surgeon and namesake of Denver Health's first family health center, opening in 1966. As we honor Black History Month, Moore and Toussaint share insights on being Black health care professionals today, the hurdles they've overcome and the duty they carry to inspire the coming generations. This groundbreaking initiative is creating equitable opportunities for first-generation students by pairing online education with paid, career-oriented apprenticeships. Here’s why this matters: ?? Flexible Learning: Students can earn their degree online through CSU Global and other partner universities, fitting education around their lives and commitments. ?? Career Connections: With industry partners like Liberty Global, Pinnacol Assurance, and Denver Health, students gain hands-on experience, career coaching, and pathways to full-time roles. ?? Affordability: 90% of AdvanceEDU students graduate debt-free, leveraging federal financial aid and low tuition costs. Students like Yesenia Mendoza, who recently graduated from CSU Global, are now embarking on exciting careers in tech, while others like Lizbeth Reyes and Ferouysa Abdul Kadir are thriving with support systems like childcare and wellness centers. This collaboration demonstrates what’s possible when education meets innovation. Together, we’re helping students achieve their goals and create lasting change for their families and communities.
