Not many teens are going pro in esports after high school, but nearly anyone can go pro in the #skilledtrades. If you have a high school student who loves gaming, consider how those skills could match up with the construction industry. Handy with a joy stick? Perhaps a career as a heavy equipment operator is in order. Great hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills? Those translate well to the equipment we use for sewer jetting. Teens may not make these connections on their own, so it’s up to parents, teachers, guidance counselors and other advocates for the skilled trades to help. With a huge portion of the workforce nearing retirement age, our future depends on the next generation.
