Failed generator #interconnection processes are preventing states from meeting their full economic potential. On our blog, United’s Doug P. and Caitlin Marquis highlight findings from our recently released report, including steps states can take to ensure more large-scale energy resources can connect to the power grid more quickly, including: -Supporting the implementation of interconnection process reforms initiated by FERC and RTOs;? -Taking advantage of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s programs, which offer funding and technical support; and? -Taking steps to minimize siting and permitting challenges that can exacerbate interconnection delays. As my colleagues Caitlin Marquis and Doug P. detail in today's blog post, Advanced Energy United’s latest report, “How Interconnection Reform Can Accelerate Clean Energy Deployment,” estimates the increased rate at which advanced energy solutions could connect to the grid if #interconnection reforms are implemented successfully. ?? Punch line: there’s $100 billion worth of economic benefits on the line if interconnection reforms are successful, and provides a state-by-state breakdown of how much we can boost grid capacity and create jobs across the entire country. Tip of the cap to our friends at Power Advisory for their expert analysis. On November 7, the Michigan Public Service Commission took a major step forward to protect heating affordability with its decision to cut back on rate increases and require DTE Gas to plan for a more financially sustainable future.?This means that DTE is going to have to look for lower-cost ways to serve its customers in revised gas infrastructure plans.? ?? As we celebrate the MPSC’s good work, we remember that over 1.6 million Consumers Energy customers, and customers of other gas utilities across the state, are still entirely exposed to the concerning bill trends affecting gas utilities nationwide.?
