Never underestimate the value of mentorship, the power of a sense of belonging, and an open mind to ideas from people of various backgrounds and walks of life. These attributes are critical to bringing new initiatives to the forefront and in the case of #medtech, to serve patients with lifesaving, life-changing technology. AdvaMed is proud to share the story of a medtech entrepreneur who received just the warm welcome she needed to bring her smart idea into fruition. We wish Maria Artunduaga and her company, Samay, every success. Read more:

AdvaMed is proud to have supported a new Massachusetts bill that goes into effect in 2025. The bill will ensure all insurance covers both routine breast cancer screenings and follow-up exams for those who need them without increasing patient cost-sharing. Nearly half of all women 40 and older who get mammograms are found to have dense breast tissue and may need supplemental screening. Insurance too often doesn’t cover the supplemental screening, leaving women in a difficult position. The concern is especially pressing for Black women, who have increased likelihood of dense breast tissue, later cancer diagnoses, and higher death rates than white women. Thank you, Governor Healey, for prioritizing women's health and saving patients' lives. https://lnkd.in/eiHjisfz

In honor of #NationalDiabetesMonth, we’re featuring as the #DeviceoftheWeek Abbott's world-leading FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, used by more than 6 million people across 60 countries. Libre systems include a sensor, which is applied to the back of the arm for up to 15 days, that sends automatic, minute-by-minute glucose readings to a mobile app or reader. Previously, people with diabetes were required to check their glucose levels several times a day through painful fingersticks. With Libre, checking glucose is as simple as reading a number on a smartphone app, making it much easier for individuals to take action, such as taking insulin or adjusting food and activity, and make progress toward their health goals. Ten years after its initial launch, Libre technology continues to help make #diabetes care easier and more accessible for more people. Learn about how Abbott is a #medtech leader in providing solutions that improve the lives of millions of those living with diabetes. https://bit.ly/3Z0m4iE

On this #VeteransDay, AdvaMed honors all those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Read more about how organizations like?MedTechVets is giving back to the veteran community by helping veterans find meaningful employment in the #medtech industry.

    President and CEO, AdvaMed

As we commemorate #VeteransDay, I’ve been reflecting on what it must mean to be a veteran in today’s world. I’ve been thinking not just about the service veterans gave to us as a country, but also about the service they can continue to offer after leaving the battlefield.? ? Our veterans have always been the backbone of our country. Going all the way back to the Revolutionary War through which we gained our independence up to today, it’s their sacrifice above all others we have to thank for our country’s 248?years and counting. Unfortunately, too many of them too often face challenges when returning home from this highest of civic duties. But here’s the good news: Veterans are more than ready to take on their next mission. Matter of fact, they’re?perfectly suited?for working in the #medtech industry. ? I’m proud of how medtech companies continue to embrace the unique skills, leadership, and discipline veterans bring to the table. And I’m excited to be a board member of MedTechVets, an organization that is so committed to helping so many veterans find meaningful careers in the #medtech space. When you look at it, veterans have so much to offer—critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, tenacity, and a drive to make a real difference in the world. They are tailor-made for the lifechanging and lifesaving work of medtech. Michael Minogue's founding vision has definitely played out as one of the most effective veterans career placement organizations in existence: More than 95% of veterans find meaningful medtech jobs through the program, with a stellar retention rate of 84%. ? Just recently, I had the privilege of being on Capitol Hill to talk about how MedTechVets is helping veterans transition into new careers where they can continue to make a difference, and I was encouraged by the support we found on both sides of the aisle for the remarkable work the organization does. ? To all veterans, on behalf of AdvaMed and the patients our companies serve: Thank you. The medtech community is?proud of you, and we are committed to ensuring that your next chapter is just as impactful as the one you’ve already written. ? For anyone in medtech looking to make a difference in veterans’ lives while at the same time taking your own company to new heights, if you haven’t already, I encourage you to take a closer look at MedTechVets and see how you can help create new opportunities in our field for veterans. https://medtechvets.org/

Millions of Medicare beneficiaries will have coverage of important diagnostic tools and certain digital therapeutics for mental health treatment, thanks to CMS coverage decisions for 2025. CMS recognized two expandingly popular, valuable imaging technologies: diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals used to diagnose illnesses including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, and certain types of cancer; and computed tomography colonography (CTC), also known as a virtual colonoscopy, to provide Medicare beneficiaries access to a minimally invasive colorectal cancer screening tool. With its digital therapeutics decision, CMS opened a conversation on the types of these treatments to cover for Medicare beneficiaries, a critical step as digital treatments arise that could improve mental health conditions in addition to traditional methods. Kudos to CMS for forward-looking action helping Medicare beneficiaries achieve better health. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ettpvcMn

The number-one cancer women in the U.S. are diagnosed with is breast cancer. And at least half of those women have what doctors and scientists call “dense breast tissue,” which often means initial screening options can miss signs of cancer. AdvaMed is calling on Medicare to expand its coverage?to include supplemental imaging for women with dense breast tissue, emphasizing its life-saving potential. AdvaMed highlights the critical health equity needs this coverage would address, particularly as many women face barriers such as lack of insurance coverage of or limited access to recommended supplemental screenings. Black women, for example, have higher mortality rates with respect to breast cancer. AdvaMed supports efforts such as the bipartisan?Find It Early Act, pending in Congress,?and calls on CMS to take the life-saving step of ensuring equitable access to vital imaging technologies for the millions of women in Medicare at risk of breast cancer. https://lnkd.in/eGNwA2Ud
