As a part of our We Believe in Portland video interviews, I chatted with Portland Mayor Keith Wilson about his plan to end unsheltered homelessness in Portland, Oregon. The progress that he's made in just 5 weeks on the job wildly exceeded my expectations. As a goal-oriented, metrics-driven business person, I wanted to know step-by-step how we as private citizens can help the Mayor accomplish his goal this year of 1,500 beds at night shelters and 600 units at day shelters across all four quadrants of the city. The Mayor has a solid answer and early wins tracking towards success, and Lance Orton, Executive Director of CityTeam Portland shares his optimism for being part of the solution by adding 110-120 beds in a shelter and addiction recovery services in his new building in Old Town by Sept of this year. Watch the video for all of the ways that the Mayor and private citizens and non-profits are making progress towards a major dent in homelessness in Portland, Oregon. Believe. And take action. #webelieveinportland #endhomelessness #takeaction #signupforwebelieve Felicia Tripp, Ben Sand, Dr. Robin R. Michael L., founder + Exec Director of Humans For Housing, moved to Portland a couple of years ago and at 25 years old is making a huge impact on raising awareness + advocacy for how to engage in Portland's homelessness problem. In my 2025 We Believe in Portland (WBIP) video series, I'm focusing on interviewing Portlanders who've done the hard things in our community. When I co-founded WBIP a couple of years ago, I did so to bring people together in our city to do the simple thing of picking up trash and supporting a local restaurant. Homelessness was way too complex for me to feel like I could make even the smallest dent in it, but now folks like Michael are giving me hope that we as private Portland citizens can impact change here. I met Michael when he first moved to Portland through a mutual close friend, Ben Sand, and our paths kept crossing at Portland community events and with other mutual friends like Lance Orton. It's hard not to want to be like Michael and be incredibly inspired by him. He graduated from Gonzaga University a couple years before my oldest daughter did (Go Zags)! #webelieveinportland #belikemike #homelessnessawareness #humansforhousing The Contingent, CityTeam, Keith Wilson, We Believe in Portland, Humans For Housing The big event is in 12 weeks. Community in Action!! ?? Thank you KATU-TV for highlighting our Block Brigade program and the impact it is having across the city! We would love to see this partnership with the city continue to grow and include Block Brigades in all corners of our wonderful home.
Stop pointing fingers and start working together on one of the things we can all agree on.... making our beloved city cleaner and happier. KATU highlighted how we are working in partnership with the city to improve the community we love. At AdoptOneBlock- we would like to see 50-100 of these teams all over the city taking care of excess trash and low level graffiti remediation on a regular basis. New city council- let's make this happen! https://lnkd.in/gmYaxrGf
