We are thrilled to have you on our team, Asmita Thapa. Welcome!
Public Health Professional | MPH-Biostatistics and Epidemiology Candidate | Development and Research Fellow @Adhikaar for Human Rights and Social Justice
My professional journey began in Nepal’s non-profit sector, where I poured my heart into creating lasting change. Today, that path has led me to the United States, where I’m embracing a new chapter of growth, both as a student and a fellow in a dynamic NGO. Navigating life abroad, pursuing higher education, and starting all over in a new country can feel daunting. The challenges are real, and at times, it seems like the odds are stacked higher. Yet, I am unshaken. Each fear is a stepping stone, each challenge an invitation to rise, and each step forward an opportunity to create greater impact. It may be complex, but it’s possible. No matter where life takes me, my purpose remains clear: to rebuild, uplift, and leave a legacy of hope and transformation. With that said, I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as a Development and Research Fellow at Adhikaar for Human Rights and Social Justice!

Happy Labor Day! ?????? Today we celebrate your achievements, your hard work and determination in our fight for workers’ rights, and celebrate the wins of ancestors in the labor movement who have brought us here today. #Adhikaar is the country’s only women-led community and workers’ center organizing Nepali-speaking workers. We are proud to fight every day for justice and dignity for our people. In all of our work, we embrace a social justice vision bound in dignity and equity for all by centering immigrant workers - like our members and leaders who are domestic workers, nail salon workers, gas station, food delivery, restaurant workers, and more. Happy Labor Day to all!

*ANNOUNCEMENT* We are pleased to introduce Cynthia Saxena as the new Co-Executive Director of Adhikaar for Human Rights and Social Justice to better serve our mission and the Nepali-speaking communities in New York, New Jersey, and beyond. Over the last several years, Adhikaar has experienced extraordinary growth. Our new Co-ED structure was designed to respond to our growing needs. Under this new leadership model, Narbada Chhetri will focus on Programs, and Cynthia will address Infrastructure. Cynthia has a robust background in fostering strategic partnerships, fundraising, and international relations. She has a proven track record of mobilizing resources and fostering growth for non-profits, small enterprises, and UN agencies.
