What’s the most important skill to build as a leader? ????The meta skill to build new skills. We all come up against challenges and situations where our current toolkit isn’t enough. It can be frustrating. The go-to? Continuing to approach these challenges with our old tools and ways of thinking - even when they don't work. Instead, we can see these times as an opportunity to learn and develop. Here’s how: 1?? Be Conscious: ‘Get on the balcony’ and make sense of your current context. What’s important, what’s working, what are the challenges? 2?? Be Curious: Explore other perspectives, approaches and tools to unlock new options. What have you seen others do well? What might be possible? 3?? Be Better: Choose one new approach to experiment with. Identify what you’re going to try, how and when. Try it. Reflect on how it went and what you learned. Adapt. Repeat. What’s a challenge you’re facing today you could try this on? Be Conscious, Be Curious, Be Better: https://lnkd.in/gaqeixhE

Thank you Jamie McIver for the sharing. It's true that you need a different mindset to look at the challenges you are facing, whether it's a problem or tension. #VerticalDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment #GrowthMindset
A helpful reframe: Many of the challenges we face at work (and outside of work) aren’t problems to be solved, but tensions to be managed. Challenges like: ?? Stability vs Change ?? Profit vs People ??? Consult Others vs Take Action When you’re facing challenges like these, it helps to view the ‘poles’ as interdependent — one can’t exist without the other. The goal isn’t to choose one over the other, but to find a healthy balance. How it works: Identify: Notice when a challenge you’re facing involves two interdependent variables — where focusing too much on one can lead to a downside. Navigate: Balance your approach. Ensure both perspectives are considered and their positive aspects are maximized—while minimizing negative consequences. Monitor and adjust: Regularly check in on the balance and adjust as needed. Try this out for yourself... ?? ? Be Conscious: What’s a tension you’re facing right now that’s challenging you? ? Be Curious: How could you balance your approach to maximize the best of both perspectives? ? Be Better: What’s a small step you can take today / this week to move forward? ?? Source: Johnson, B. What’s the #1 thing that will set leaders apart now and in the future? ?? Adaptive leadership. Adeption CEO Carl Sanders-Edwards recently spoke at the From Day One conference in Silicon Valley, where he discussed how organizations are facing disruption at a level never seen before — and there’s no playbook for this. The challenges we're up against are adaptive challenges. ?? Technical challenges = Known solutions exist, best practices apply, excellence and expertise are required. ?? Adaptive challenges = No known solutions exist, experimentation and learning required, solutions are disruptive innovation. Here’s the thing: speed and agility is key. The organizations that survive and thrive in the future will be the ones that move quickly. What’s needed is agile leaders who have the capacity to recognize emerging challenges, respond, and lead change effectively. For many, it will require a new way of thinking and doing. To quote a bestseller, ‘What got you here won’t get you there’. Adeption’s scalable leadership development programs are designed to equip leaders—and people at all levels of organizations—with the capacity and capabilities to become adaptive leaders. We spoke with Ehsan Vaghefi, CEO and founder of healthcare innovation company Toku, for his top leadership insights: In this conversation, Ehsan shares how: ?? Having multiple priorities means having none at all. ?? Interesting things get in the way of the essential — and how his team is laser-focused on only the essential. ?? AI will not displace people—people who know how to use AI will displace people who don't. ??As a leader, nurturing mental health is vital — even if that means getting up well before dawn to hit the gym! Your mindset is the lens you see the world through — we all see things differently. So as a leader, how do you understand your own and others’ mindsets to lead more effectively in a rapidly changing world? In this article, Adeption CEO Carl Sanders-Edwards shares Part 1 of a two-part series on what creates mindsets, how to change them, and how mindset growth matters more than ever as ‘adaptive’ challenges shape the future of work.
Have you heard the quote “Seeing is not believing, believing is seeing, we see the world not as it is but as we are”? In Part 1 of this article, I share how our chooks, led by the very bossy Mrs. Mangle, not only changed how I see chickens — but also what they taught me about the role of our mindsets and how fundamental they are to our leadership and development.
