Class 1 CRISPR systems are the most abundant in bacterial and archaeal immune systems but are often overlooked due to the multi-Cas Cascade complex. Read about the powerful Class 1 system Cascade-Cas3 and see the benefits in our latest blog post! https://hubs.la/Q03693Vn0

C. acnes is the most abudant human skin microbe but.. can we make it the smartest? ??? Our latest Cell Press #CellSystems study shows how we engineered Cutibacterium acnes to actively protect the skin and developed a genetic toolkit to unlock its potential for microbiome-based therapies. ??? ?? Why C. acnes? Although some strains are linked to acne, C. acnes sticks when applied topically, has low turnover, is genetically stable, and lives in the very interesting hair follicle where the skin is the thinnest —making it an ideal chassis for synthetic biology applications. ?? What we built: ? Genetic toolbox – promoters, RBSs, terminators, inducible systems (available in Addgene and SEVA Plasmids!) ? Biocontainment strategies – to ensure safe potential skin application ? Potential therapeutic strain – secreting antioxidants to reducing UV-induced oxidative stress ?? Read the full study [Link in the comments] Thank you all people involved that made the article possible! Thank you Marc Güell for your mentorship, Javier Santos Moreno for your being my lab buddy all these years and the rest of the team at the #SynbioLab (Nil Campamà Sanz, Lorena Toloza Maturana, Cristóbal Parra Cid) in Universitat Pompeu Fabra PRBB (Barcelona Biomedical Research Park) for your help an support!! Also kudos to all the amazing SKINDEV_EU EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology for your contributions Ellen van den Bogaard Patrick Jansen from Radboudumc and I?vara Aor Rodrigo Ledesma-Amaro, PhD from Imperial College London #SyntheticBiology #Microbiome #CRISPR #Dermatology #Biotechnology --------------- ?? ?? Lee el estudio completo [Enlace en comentarios] ? We’ve long believed biological discovery needs stronger antibody characterization standards. Our friends at YCharOS Inc./The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), Addgene and Abcam recently published consensus protocols for knockout cell-line-based antibody characterization that are sure to improve performance comparisons in western, IP and IF. Check out their work in Nature Protocols!

Addgene has been in our Watertown, MA offices for six years now, and we are so proud of the many ways our employees have sought to share our science with our local community. Recently, Addgenie Alyssa joined the Watertown Little Local Conversations podcast to discuss her scientific journey, working at Addgene, and the volunteer work she and her coworkers do at the local high school.
