If you're a team leader navigating through change, read on for inspiration and concrete lessons you can apply to your job from Verizon's Monica Hammond, interviewed by our CEO Lygeia Ricciardi last week at the The She-Suite Summit. #Leadership #holisticwellness #teamsuccess #employeewellbeing #workplacewellness

Navigating Teams Through Tough Transitions: A Conversation with Monica Hammond at Verizon Many professionals I know—especially in the DMV region—are in the midst of seismic shifts in their careers and workplaces. As a leader, how do you guide your team (and yourself!) through high levels of uncertainty? Last week, I had the privilege of interviewing Monica Hammond, the Senior VP of Customer Success at Verizon Consumer Group as part of the The She-Suite Summit organized by Melissa Dawn Simkins. Monica has led teams as large as 40,000 people—so when it comes to managing change, she knows what she’s talking about. In addition to being wise, she's also an incredibly nice person! Here are my key takeaways from our conversation: ?? Change is constant. Your organization is either in the middle of it, just coming out of it, or about to go through it. Instead of seeing change as a temporary disruption, embrace it as normal, which diffuses some of the stress change brings. ?? Lead with authenticity. Connect with your team members on an authentic personal level. Walk in their shoes. Especially when delivering difficult news, communicate openly and explain the “why” behind decisions. People value honesty. ?? Take care of yourself. Leadership is a huge responsibility, and transitions especially can drain you. Monica leans on a strong circle of friends to stay grounded. Find your support system, recharge, and then show up for others. ?? You won’t please everyone. Not every decision will be popular. Be empathetic, be transparent, and when necessary, agree to disagree and move on. ?? Don’t dwell on the negative. While it’s important to acknowledge challenges, don’t let them consume your energy. Focus on what you can control, and keep moving forward. What strategies do you use to stay grounded and lead others through change? Do these resonate? Please share in the comments. ?? #workplacewellness #ChartYourCourse #ChangeLeaders #TheSheSuiteSummit25 #Leadership

Want to find more energy in your day? Here are some ideas you can try today: —Walk to the kitchen and make some tea. —Take a lap (and use the stairs!). —Do a few air squats Research shows that moving your body for at least 5 minutes every 2 hours can cut your fatigue by 20%. Now imagine if microbreaks like these became "normal" behavior at work—what would that do to stress levels?

On the eve of #2025InternationalWomen's Day, a shoutout to the many talented and passionate women doing excellent work to contribute to a better world each day. We need you to help to shape what's next in this moment of change in politics, technology, and business. In the midst of rapid change, there's a lot you can't control. But there's also a lot you can. A strong foundation is taking good care of your own health and wellbeing, and supporting your co-workers and community in the same. Tips I shared in my presentation at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) "Accelerate Her" event celebrating Women in Federal Tech on Wednesday: ? Little things can make a big difference. Research shows that 5 minute movement breaks can cut the blood sugar spike after a meal by almost 60%. They can also help you focus at work. So take that minute to stretch, or step outside between meetings. ? Make the healthy choice obvious. Design your physical environment to prompt healthy behaviors. Try a bowl of fruit instead of candy on your desk, or put your workout clothes out the night before. ? Habit stacking. This behavior science hack helps you adopt a new habit by tying it to something you already do so you don't have to think. When I brush my teeth, I always practice one short yoga move to build strength. What do you do to stay balanced and resilient, regardless of what's swirling around you? How do you build strength and focus so you can perform your best? Kudos and thank you to the organizers, presenters, and attendees at Amazon Web Services (AWS) who inspired me and the rest of the crowd, and made the effort to show up for each other, including Katie Koehler, PMP, CDFM, Dawn Heisey-Grove, Ph.D., Alexis King, Rayette Toles-Abdullah, Anita Samarth, Megan Jaffer, Tamrah Barber, ICF Certified Professional Coach, Diamond King, Leah Crawford, Chelsea Schiller, Alanna McCargo, and Gurvinder Kaur Mahajan #AWSAccelerateHer #WomenInTech #FedTech #IWD2025 #WomenInLeadership #AccelerateAction

What's more powerful than walking your talk? For the last 10 years I've read the annual report on Women in the Workplace, which details the gap between genders in the workplace and strategies to close it. TL;DR we’re making progress, but the gap remains! It’s inspiring to see #employers putting the recommendations in the report into action. Earlier this month AdaRose hosted a self-care workshop for an employee Women’s Affinity Group, hosted by the DC Office (DCO) of a firm that worked on the report. My fabulous partner LaShone Wilson and I kicked off the day-long session for women with our favorite AdaRose actionable tips for bringing well-being into your workday, including short repeatable exercises (and a stress-relieving hand massage) to refuel and optimize your body and mind. We love that the DCO is explicitly giving female employees permission to prioritize their own well-being—it's a virtuous circle, and we were honored to be a part of it. The event brought fundamental human needs and pink glitter pens together harmoniously, without apology. When I showed my teen daughter some pictures from the event she said, "You ladies look like Barbies, in the best possible way!" Though pre-Barbie movie I might not have taken that as a compliment, I knew what she meant. "Because Barbie can be anything, women can be anything." I'm here for it. Nice one, DCO! How does your company walk its talk? #workplacewellness #WomenInLeadership #WomenSupportingWomen #WalkYourTalk Shoutout to a few special women and men whom I've seen providing extra support for women's well-being and collective success: Amy West, Michael Rucker, Ph.D., Janae Sharp, Fadesola A., Amber Coleman-Mortley, Amelia Saletan, Joy Rios, Lois Drapin, Mary Griskewicz, Jessica Kahn, Dana Trampas, MPH, Irma Rastegayeva?Influence Through Storytelling??, Jeffery Daigrepont, Grace Vinton, Judy Murphy, DN(hon), RN, FACMI, LFHIMSS, FAAN, Andrea Ippolito, Jessica J. Workplace wellbeing isn't just a nice to have. It's a critical ingredient in business success. Feel good, do well. Win-win. Check out the latest research! #employeeewellness #HR #workplacewellbeing

Workplace wellbeing = financial wellbeing. The latest research confirms what many of us have long suspected: happier, healthier employees = better business performance. At the Global Wellness Summit in Scotland, Professor Jan-Emmanuel De Neve presented findings from the largest workplace wellness study to date, including data crowdsourced from millions of Indeed users. Some key takeaways: ??Companies with the highest levels of employee wellbeing are outperforming the S&P 500 and NASDAQ—for three years running! ??These firms also attract and retain top talent far more easily. ??The #1 driver of workplace wellbeing isn’t pay (though it helps!). It’s belonging—that vital sense of social connection and inclusion. De Neve and George Ward conducted the study via the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford (from which I borrowed the graph below). Their book "Why Workplace Wellbeing Matters" will be released in March; you can pre-order it now via the QR code. (I just did!) The bottom line: Investing in employee wellbeing and a positive culture isn’t just good for your team—it’s a smart financial decision. What do you think? Do these findings surprise you? cc Denice Torres, Tina Chang, John Toomey, Jane Sarasohn-Kahn, NANCY DAVIS, Kathleen Schulz, Elizabeth Grabosky, Kim Sandmaier, Rani Collins, Laurent Guinand, Ph.D., Inna Sheyn, Nell Hellem, Hadeel Al-Tashi, Heidi Steffen, Chanté Lembke, Jeff Thomson #employeeengagement #Workplacewellbeing #employeewellness #Leadership #FutureOfWork #CorporateCulture #HR #Belonging #BusinessGrowth #globalwellnesssummit
