New York City must be a place where everyone, regardless of ability, has access to safe and affordable housing. In my latest op-ed for amny, Council Member Carlinal Rivera, Tamara Morgan of Adaptive Design Association Inc. and I outline a critical step to address the housing crisis for New Yorkers with disabilities: expanding access to the Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) program. New York State Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (NYS AER) hosts the Synergistic TVI Workgroup (Formerly the TVI Collaborative). A group of TVIs from across the state who meet virtually to gain new skills and learn from each other. Our goal is to provide professional development on topics relevant to TVIs.?Recognizing everyone has their own areas of expertise, experience, and skills to bring to the table, we like to encourage everyone to share them with the group, which involves group members taking an active role in presenting. Today, ITAC celebrated #ManufacturingDay with a fantastic event at Adaptive Design Association Inc.! ?? As part of the national theme, "See Yourself in Manufacturing," we invited local high school students to experience the world of modern manufacturing. We were thrilled to be joined by Assemblyman Tony Simone, who is dedicated to expanding opportunities for manufacturing jobs in our community. Adaptive Design, known for its incredible work crafting custom-built products for children with disabilities, provided a hands-on glimpse into how manufacturing can make a positive impact. From innovative educational tools to adaptive equipment, students saw firsthand how engineers and fabricators bring these life-changing ideas to life. This event was made possible thanks to funding from the Workforce Development Institute (WDI), helping us introduce students to the diverse and rewarding opportunities in manufacturing. We're proud to be part of Manufacturing Day and look forward to sharing more from our upcoming events!
