Every year, ADAPT produces a short film based on the theme for our ADAPT Leadership Awards Gala. This year, the theme was “The Future Is Now.” Follow along as the film shows you how technology impacts the lives of the people we support. First, we visit the Pelham Adult Learning Center, where the individuals we support express their artistry through laser painting. Next, we follow the journey of Noah, an ADAPT preschool student who unlocked the ability to communicate through the use of his iPad. Finally, join us in Brooklyn, where ADAPT thespians take the stage, where roles are adapted to each individual’s ability. We at ADAPT are so grateful for everyone who has been a part of our journey this past year. Here’s to another year of empowering people with innovative solutions, one person at a time! https://lnkd.in/gRsbY3cw #idd #developmentaldisabilites #iddwebinar #disabilities #specialneedsparenting #autism #disabilitysupport #disabilityinclusion #opwdd #intellectualdisabilities #cerebralpalsy #autism #adhd #asd #disabilityeducation

March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! This month is a time to spread awareness of developmental disabilities, promote disability education, and encourage inclusion. In addition to education, this National Developmental Disabilities Month is also about advocacy. The I/DD community’s Medicaid coverage is under threat, which therefore threatens disability services across the country. To protect the well-being of people with disabilities, please join us in urging the federal and state government to support a 7.8% Medicaid Rate increase and convene a Worker Wage Commission. Want to join the fight??Use this link to reach out to your legislators: https://lnkd.in/gwf26GmF #nddam #ddam #DDAM2025

“We are ready in short, to dedicate our strength to serving the needs, rather than the fears, of the world.” ― Dwight D. Eisenhower Never thought I’d be following in the footsteps of a man whose writing inspired me in my early teens, when I read his memoir of World War Two, ‘Crusade in Europe’. But in being honoured with the Hausman Humanitarian Award at the Adapt Leadership Awards in New York this week, I joined an illustrious list of previous honourees that included Eisenhower in 1962. Truly standing on the shoulders of giants. My work started as a photographer, who saw injustice in the world, and believed his only way of challenging that injustice was through storytelling. An angry man with a camera. Twenty years later I am CEO of one of the fastest growing international NGOs Legacy Of War Foundation and the first UN Global Advocate for People with Disabilities in Conflict and Peacebuilding Situations. But at my heart I am still a story teller and I see this award as an honour not for me, but rather for those who have shared their stories through my work. For they are my strength and my purpose. Thank you to my dear friend Ilda Rastoder Bruun Jim Hausman and all at ADAPT Community Network And for my wonderful table of supporting friends and colleagues Negar Tayyar Erin Allweiss Rita Nakouzi Cara E. Yar Khan Amir Zia Kalliopi Mingeirou Lee Woodyear Tash Walker ?? The gala dinner raised $1.2 million which will support their incredible work building a more inclusive and equitable world for thousands of children and adults with disabilities. At a time when the world is again facing brutal aggressors, weak leadership and politics driven my profit not morality, Eisenhower’s words ring true again. “So the world is again faced with the problem of armed aggression. Powerful dictatorships are attacking an exposed, but free, area. What should we do? Shall we take the position that, submitting to threat, it is better to surrender pieces of free territory in the hope that this will satisfy the appetite of the aggressor and we shall have peace?” ― Dwight D. Eisenhower
