At last week’s Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education meeting, a moment was taken to recognize Aditi Muthukumar. Muthukumar took 5th place at the National Spelling Bee as an 8th-grader at Hulstrom K-8 earlier this year. Now a freshman at Legacy High School, Muthukumar took time that evening to share her experiences and be recognized alongside her family and community. #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

Thanks to community input about values and priorities at several points across the engagement process last year, we have identified these Blueprint Funding Proposals that will have positive effects for every school across the district. The mill levy override would address operational needs. With these investment dollars, we will be able to provide exploratory career and technical education (CTE) classes in middle school allowing students to discover their passion and strengths at an earlier age. #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

Congratulations to Northglenn High School’s very own Kent Hups, for being announced as one of the recipients for the 2024 K-12 Earth Science Teacher of the Year Award by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists (RMAG). Hups previously won the award in 2015, and we are excited for him to receive this honor again. Hups, a Geology and Biology teacher at Northglenn High School?with over 20 years of experience,?engages with students by using real-world projects and inquiry-based learning to teach them about the rock cycle, tectonics, earthquakes, fossils and structural geology.? As part of this award by the RMAG Foundation, Hups will receive $2,000 to further his professional development and Northglenn High School will receive $2,000 to support their earth science programs. Hups plans to use award funds to invest in Virtual Reality devices to allow students to “visit” geological sites around the state and “see” the rocks that these sites provide. These devices combined with his incorporation of field trips, interactive labs, and collaborative projects with local geologists will continue to make geology exciting and available to students. Mr. Hups is a volunteer Research Associate with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and spends time in the summers on dinosaur dig sites with museum staff. He was recognized at the RMAG Luncheon Meeting on August 7 at the Denver Energy Resource Library and was provided a one-year membership to RMAG, funded by the RMAG Foundation. #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, the Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education approved the placement of an $830 million bond and a $34.5 million mill levy override on the November ballot.? “Adams 12 Five Star Schools places great emphasis on career readiness,” Superintendent Chris Gdowski said. “We have the highest percentage ever of students earning scores worth college credit on Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and our students earned nearly 3,000 industry certifications last year in specialty areas like business, health sciences and the skilled trades. These funding proposals allow us to build upon these successes through investing in the people, programming and facilities that allow our students to thrive. They are a smart and sound investment in our economy, and the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs and caretakers.”? #ELEVATESuccess #FiveStarProud
