Thank you to Daniel Gaddis, AICP for visiting and to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs team for the City of Acworth's recently awarded PlanFirst Community designation. We are so proud of and thankful for our hard-working team which works tirelessly to contribute to a great quality of life for our residents and visitors in the Acworth community! #acworthy #acworthga #cobbcounty
I recently traveled up to Acworth, Georgia to deliver their PlanFirst certificate to their elected body and staff. In September, Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced our newest 2025-2027 PlanFirst designees, a prestigious designation for exemplary comprehensive planning. Reviewers of Acworth’s application noted consistent, robust engagement around their comp plan. From their Community Work Program, reviewers lauded the Cauble Park renovation, their new wayfinding signage, the dedication of a local park to Aldermen Doyal Hill--Acworth’s first Black elected official, and their comp plan-driven rezoning and overlay adoption to revitalize the downtown. I was proud to congratulate the City of Acworth, Georgia and look forward to seeing how they continue making the Lake City an even more vibrant community! The City of Acworth is a proud partner of Georgia Kids Belong and encourages our fellow Georgia cities to become Foster Friendly Communities by working with local businesses, business associations, and faith-based organizations to support our amazing foster families in Georgia! ??
Acworth Cares 2024, presented by NorthStar Church, was the most special night. It was a deep, beautiful picture of Foster Friendly Community in City of Acworth, Georgia. We believe foster parenting is most effective when the weight of caring for vulnerable families is felt by whole, Foster Friendly, communities. This unique foster care celebration and recruitment night brought together foster parents, potential foster parents, city leaders from Acworth & Cartersville, pastors, school leaders, nonprofits, DFCS, private foster agencies, Foster Friendly Business owners, & community members with hearts for foster care. Connections were made, tears were spilled, foster parents were honored, bridges were built, and all were left challenged to step up in new ways. This is possible in all of GA's cities.
