Congratulations to the entire crew that helped bring The Electric State to Netflix's audience this past weekend. Our team SuperAlloy Interactive was fortunate enough to work alongside Digital Domain and Industrial Light & Magic as on set motion capture and data cleaning crew for the run of show. From early tests at the DD parking lot, to shooting on multiple sets and locations across Atlanta with the team at Actor Capture, it leveled us up tremendously and was transformative for our small but mighty team. Thank you Matthew Butler for offering us the opportunity, and David Feinsilber, Piotr Karwas, and Joel Behrens for shepherding us. This weekend I watched ?????? ???????????????? ?????????? and, in my opinion, ?????????? is the real main character. Without spoiling anything, Cosmo is an adorable robot with a kid's soul. Every scene with Cosmo is filled with joy. Cosmo is played by motion capture actress Devyn Dalton, she is amazing in this movie. But you only know this because of the behind the scenes footage where you can see her wearing the Xsens Entertainment | Movella mocap suit underneath the tracking suit (also known as ??????????????). ?????? ???????? ?? ?????????? ???????? ?????? ?? '??????????????' ????????? The mocap suit is to capture the movements and the fauxcap suit is to track the position in the scene and for lighting information. Why not print these tracking markers directly on a mocap suit, you might ask? That is a damn good question! I'm dropping this idea on our product manager Christopher Romero??GDC right now! ?? Anyways... Cosmo is a great character, which is strange because the robot has no facial expression. Still so much emotion in every scene Cosmo has. I'm a fan of Cosmo. ???????????? ?????? ???????????? Netflix released a full video about just Cosmo. It has interviews with Devyn, Millie Bobby Brown, Christopher Markus (screenwriter), Terry Notary (movement choreographer), Matthew Butler (VFX Supervisor), and the Russo Brothers. Our friends at Actor Capture recently held an incredible Motion Capture Workshop featuring CMII Professors of Practice James Martin (Technical Director) and Max Thomas (CTO). They were joined by GSU alumni Joel Mack (Senior Unreal Artist), Aidan Dowell (Mocap Technician), Stephanie Yancoskie (Shot Supervisor), Justin Hall (Mocap Technician), Aaron Bravo (Witness Reference Supervisor), Kat Szypulski (Mocap Intern), and eight talented performers from North Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia. The Actor Capture Mocap Workshop is designed to elevate the skills of participants, showcasing stunt, dance, martial arts, and acting talents on demo reels. Attendees gained hands-on experience with all the roles involved in producing motion capture for major movie studios such as Netflix, Warner Brothers, BET, Sony Pictures, ILM, META, Digital Domain, and more. Actor Capture, creators of the official Mocap Workshop, have most recently worked on the upcoming film #TheElectricState. Participants learned how to use Movella's #XSen Link suits, Reallusion's #CharacterCreator, #UnrealEngine, and captured witness reference footage with #RedCameras. This workshop brought performances to life, demonstrating the innovative ways motion capture is revolutionizing the creative industry. Now that's #TheStateWay!
