In this book, they discuss that anything (products, ideas, or behaviors) can be contagious if it leverages social currency, triggers, emotion, public visibility, practical value, and stories properly. A big reason why is people showcase their social capital by sharing ideas, products, and ideas they think will improve the lives of others and earn them credibility. ?? We had so much fun celebrating Joey becoming a father! The funniest game we played at his baby shower was seeing who could guess what candy was put in each diaper via smell. This hands-on session taught students about CBSM and tasked them with using information in the park to make decisions about important behaviors to target. Our team enjoyed working with the Zero Waste Working Group at Swarthmore College to identify and test strategies that would support their zero waste goals. Following the community-based social marketing process, we selected a target behavior, identified barriers & benefits, developed strategies, and piloted them. Using a “sort smart” game to practice the placement of items, 3-D prompts on waste bins, a photo commitment board, and in-person support, the proper sorting of 4 target materials increased over the pilot period. ??
