Community-based coalition committed to equitable housing, jobs, environment, and transportation access.
关于我们
Action for Equity was formed in 2017 from the merger of Action for Regional Equity and On the Move for Transportation Justice. The coalition currently has 13 community organizational members. Its primary purpose is to create and implement policies to address the issue of race and class inequities. Bringing together advocates from housing, jobs, transportation and health, has allowed Action (led by people from impacted neighborhoods) to promote a holistic approach for reducing disparities faced by communities of color and low-income in the greater Boston region. As a coalition of community-based and social justice organizations, we are working to address structural racism and longstanding inequities and ensure that all people, and particularly people of color, have quality housing, good jobs and job access, environmental quality, and transportation access, among other things as steps to reach the society we want. Action is fighting for an equitable society where power is held by all, regardless of race, class and gender, as well as sexual orientation, age, faith, geography, or physical ability; where the disparities resulting from a history of embedded structural racism are not just gone, but people are made whole; where the benefits of our collective endeavors in government, community building, development, and progress in general are felt by all. We are fighting for a society in which the oppression of some is not used to benefit others and where neither race nor anything else is used as a dividing line.

Our HVAC-R Basic class is for community members who are employed and want to develop deep skills in building decarbonization work. All participants passed this critical online test and achieved the Hot Works certification! In Massachusetts, Technicians are required to pass a US EPA-approved test to earn Section 608 Technician Certification in order to maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release refrigerants into the atmosphere. For our class members, the journey continues. The next phase includes OSHA 30 certification and training for heat pump installation, blueprint reading, and sizing of HVAC ducts. These classes will continue to be held one evening a week (4 hours), every week, for the remaining 25 weeks of the program.

Exciting progress is on the horizon for the Fairmount Line as the MBTA celebrates a $54 million contract to bring battery-electric trains to Dorchester, Mattapan, and Hyde Park by 2028. This milestone is a testament to the tireless efforts of Fairmount Indigo Transit Coalition founded by Action for Equity’s executive director, Marvin Martin. The Fairmount Indigo Transit Coalition (FITC), a coalition of Greater Boston community organizations focused on transit justice. Thanks to FITC, more frequent service and cleaner transit options are becoming a reality for our communities.

Celebrating freedom and resilience on Juneteenth! On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, marking the true end of slavery in the U.S. Today, we honor African American achievements and reflect on the journey toward equity & equality. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Emancipation #BlackIndependenceDay
