Yemen is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Since conflict began in 2014, millions of women and children have had to bear the brunt of violence. Nearly half the population, or over 17 million people, are food insecure. ? Displacement is widespread. Many individuals end up in displacement camps or dangerous makeshift shelters, often without any insulation or privacy. “There, they face daily uncertainty about where they will end up, or if they’ll ever return home,” said Anne Garella, Director of Middle East Operations. ? As Ukraine marks three years of war, an estimated nine million Ukrainians live in poverty and as many as 12.7 million, or 40% of the population, depend on humanitarian aid to survive. Humanitarian operations in the region were already functioning with limited resources and struggling to access frontline areas. With funding now slashed, around 20,000 people in these high-risk zones could face severe consequences. “As a result of this suspension, access to healthcare could become very limited for 18,000 people living in remote areas and in precarious conditions. We had to interrupt psychological support sessions for displaced and traumatized children and teenagers, and around 1,800 people in highly vulnerable situations may no longer receive financial support to cover their basic needs,” explains Ionut Raita, Director of Action Against Hunger in Ukraine.

I was honored to be quoted in this The New York Times opinion piece by Jeremy Konyndyk.? ? The halt of these essential programs comes at a time when Haiti is facing an escalating nutrition and food insecurity crisis. As the number of people suffering from malnutrition continues to rise, the situation is approaching a catastrophic level. ? We must all work together to advocate for sustainable solutions that not only provide immediate aid but also empower communities.? ?
