Action Greensboro is a nonprofit that champions projects aimed at enhancing the city’s quality of life, civic engagement, and educational advancement and attracting and retaining young people in Greensboro. Our operating expenses are underwritten by six Greensboro foundations, and our plan of work is established by soliciting the ideas and concerns of Greensboro’s citizens and leaders in business, higher education and municipal government. Change was brewing in Greensboro - but the moniker "Greens-boring" clung to the city like an unwanted shadow. They needed a new strategy to encourage young people to the city to take advantage of the new job opportunities and to help the culture thrive. The cornerstone of their talent attraction campaign were 'boomerangs' - former residents who boomeranged back to plant roots and take on essential roles as civic leaders and entrepreneurs. The Boomerang Greensboro campaign was recognized on an international stage at the City Nation Place Global conference in London, celebrating Greensboro’s unique approach to bringing talent *back home*. Since launching, Boomerang Greensboro has welcomed 85 families, connected top talent with companies like Honda Aircraft Company , First Bank (FBNC) and the Center for Creative Leadership and reached thousands online. ????
