Actea cofounder Dr. Trond Kristiansen will present this poster at the Alaska Marine Science Meeting (AMSS) meeting on Monday 27th between 6-7:30 pm. Please join him if you will be there. Actea used its proprietary statistical downscaling methodology to produce the climate projections used by our collaborators. If similar data would be of value to you in your work, please contact us.

Thank you to Braid Theory for including Actea's Trond Kristiansen in the Sustainable Ocean Summit.
?? Last week, OCEANOVATION partnered with our friends from World Ocean Council and Braid Theory to host an inspiring innovation session as part of the Tomorrow.BlueEconomy program, titled “Blue Economy Innovation: Pioneering Sustainable Solutions.” This session took place during the ?? World Ocean Council’s Sustainable Ocean Summit and Global Blue Finance Summit 2024—bringing together leading voices and visions shaping the future of our oceans. The session kicked off with a powerful panel discussion on how innovation fuels sustainable growth in the Blue Economy, exploring emerging trends, the challenges of scaling ocean tech, and the vital roles of policy, investment, and partnerships. ?????? The panel included Friends of OCEANOVATION: ?? Moderator: Ryan Blaney | IP Strategy | Braid Theory ?? Ann Lee Carpenter | CEO | Braid Theory ?? Steffen Knodt | Founder | Deepblue Earth UG ?? Carlos Esteban | Partner | Faber (Climate/Ocean Tech) Following the panel, 12 pioneering start-ups delivered rapid-fire pitches, each showcasing unique, impactful solutions for the future of our oceans. ???? This included Oceannovators like The Great Bubble Barrier?, AETHIC, KIDEMIS, SeaO2, Actea Inc, Okhtapus , Gigablue, Envjoy, MacroCarbon, Blue Ocean Gear, SeaTheFuture, and Vesta, PBC. Several start-ups also presented at the World Ocean Council's Sustainable Ocean Summit and Global Blue Finance Summit, while others connected with WOC’s corporate and investment communities over the three days of events—gaining visibility and building valuable connections. ???? Thank you to everyone who contributed to this vibrant event. Together, we’re pioneering sustainable pathways for the Blue Economy. ???? #OceanInnovation #BlueEconomy #SustainableFuture #Ocean

Actea was proud to provide the climate projections for the following paper: Fish distribution shifts due to climate change in the Northeast Atlantic: Using a hierarchical filtering approach on marine-estuarine opportunist species. The paper looks at the suitability of marine environment for adult populations on a scale covering their distribution ranges. Among the studies looking at shifts in environment suitability distribution, few have analyzed the directionality and the magnitude of different distributional characteristics (e.g., range size, gravity centroids, and margins) (Morato et al., 2020;?Soultan et al., 2022). In this context, there is a crucial need to understand the climate-induced shifts in marine environment suitability for populations of MEO fish species within the Northeast Atlantic, covering a large part of their ranges to anticipate the potential future impacts that these biological redistributions may have on ecosystem functioning and human well-being (Pecl et al., 2017).

Actea supported the DFO by producing the high resolution and bias corrected climate projections for their analysis of Cod in Newfoundland waters: https://lnkd.in/gYyyVry2 Congratulations to Cofounder Trond Kristiansen on the publication.

While the subject is indeed tragic, the strides made in understanding and addressing it are noteworthy. Congratulations to Mike Litzow and his collaborators, including Trond Kristiansen, cofounder of Actea Inc, on their publication in Nature Climate Change: "Human-induced borealization leads to the collapse of Bering Sea snow crab." At Actea we're proud that our data is playing a critical role in informing NOAA's management strategies for snow crab populations. This collaboration underscores the importance of science-driven solutions in confronting climate challenges. Read more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/ggxTTrF8).

Thank you to Braid Theory and Ann Lee Carpenter for having Actea Inc participate at #IGNITE22. CEO Jordan Miller demonstrated how Actea's data and modeling can be used by ocean based businesses to understand the ongoing changes in extreme ocean weather and its spatial variability, and how such insights can lead to climate resilience.
A few highlights of #IGNITE22 for your viewing pleasure :)

Another scientific publication using Actea data was released today, this time looking at climate impacts on loggerhead sea turtles. Understanding shifts in habitats and foraging areas will be critical for marine conservation as ocean climate change continues to accelerate. When it comes to blue carbon, reef restoration, and other activities, Actea's data can help teams understand how optimal conditions for a project will shift, and how long a particular species will continue to use a particular place in the ocean. https://lnkd.in/gYNBhksH

Thank you to the Norwegian Seafood Council for your last minute inclusion of Actea Inc on your panel on AI and Sustainable Seafood. Thanks to Kira Smiley for your great questions. Our CEO Jordan Miller was honored to share the stage with seafood industry leaders and leading startups. Thanks to H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and the organizers for making the "business festival" (as H.R.H. put it) both a great place to collaborate on new opportunities with potential new partners, and also to enjoy an intimate musical performances during a Michelin Star worthy dinner by Christopher Haatuft.
