For ACT Scholar Elysia Severson, attending college is not just about building a brighter future --it’s a way to honor her late sisters, who never had a chance to pursue higher education. Their memory fuels her determination as she works toward her accounting degree at Kirkwood Community College. Balancing coursework while managing disabilities has not been easy for Elysia, but her resilience, determination, and supportive teachers have helped her stay on track. Receiving the ACT Scholarship eased her financial burden, allowing her to focus on her studies and her goals. “The ACT scholarship made me cry when I got it. It means a lot to me. When I got it, I realized I wouldn't have to struggle to pay out of pocket, so I'm very grateful for this scholarship,” Elysia says.
